Default Tips on replacing cam cover gaskets?

Im going to replace both cam cover gaskets soon on a series 1.5.. Should I use gasket adhesive? If so what type and how much? What torque value should the acorn nuts be tightened too? The oil always works past the copper washers under the acorn nuts holding the covers on...any way I can prevent this? I really would like to prevent any oil leaks in the future. Thanks for help.

Default Installing Camshaft Covers

From my experience, I would follow the same procedure used by Richard Michael Owen in his "My Junk E-Type Engine Part 10" series (starting at about 19:0):

For his gaskets, etc., he recommends Hylomar Aerograde sealer:

Amazon Amazon

In the video he discusses the torque he uses, the main thing is to avoid cracking the camshaft covers.

He points out and also I recommend that new copper washers should be used since the old ones get distorted and hardened by the torquing into place for each stud bolt. This can save you on the worry about annealing the old ones. For your information, this sets up grooves, etc., in the old washers that simply cannot be made to perfectly re-match the exact acorn nut/cam cover land after removal, especially if you have not kept them perfectly matched to the exact stud you took them off of each time.

Also, here is another string on this forum for the same question about the washers that might also have helpful information:

Hi Racerxf2004,
I would also recommend that you anneal the copper washers before installing them. Otherwise they may not deform and seal when tightening the acorn nuts.
