Default turns over, wont start

I took my 69 e-type for a run. At about 80 mph, it popped, puffed a little black smoke and died. Towed it home. Replaced the fuel pump. Getting gas to all three carbs. It has spark. I tried another coil just in case and nothing. I cleaned all the plugs as they were black, nothing. It turns over and acts like its not getting gas but its getting plenty. Your help please!!

This is the key to your trouble, namely a sudden failure rather than a more extended deterioration. Have you checked the cylinder pressures ? Also check the tappet clearances. I'm assuming here that the spark is fat and correctly timed and fuel is in the carburettors at the right level in the chambers.

Thanks for getting back to me Fraser. For some odd reason, the distributor had loosened up and turned enough to throw the timing off. Thanks for your help!

My immediate thought. Timing slipped. Gald you found it and sorted it.
