Default Type 1 Choke Lever in a Type 2?

Can this style choke lever be fitted to the dash in a Type 2? The lever in my 1970 2+2 is very awkward to pull out. This appears to be much more functional.

I see now this lever was mounted I believe in a different location so replacing the type I have now would be problematic.

Yes, the SERIES 2 choke levers are much different and can be a pain to engage. A bit of lube oil stuck through the slot on to the mechanism helped mine. You also may want to check the freedom of the cable residing inside the casing. Over the years it could be gummed up inside, making it difficult for the cable to slide freely. If you feel comfortable taking the cables off the carbs, you can hold the cables up vertically and spray some penetrant down inside while someone works the choke lever.

Kinda hafta be careful using TYPE instead of SERIES.. the cars are E-TYPES (but called XK-E here in the US), but the different iterations of the cars are referred to as SERIES, Series 1, Series 2, Series 3. There is also common, casual and informal usage of Series 1.25 and 1.5 to denote the running changes from Series 1 cars to full Series 2 cars.

TYPE is used for the Es, but with their differentials, to again, distinguish the iterations of the diffs. My SERIES 2 E has a TYPE 3 diff. all has to do with the brackets that hold the brake calipers.

Thank you for the reply. I have time tomorrow to take the cables off the carburetors and try to lubricate from both ends. Even lubricated the “lever” on the dash is at a funny angle and could have been designed better IMHO. Even a pull knob would get my vote.

I do know the difference between “type” and “series” and just have to blame old age and chemo brain for my post. 😊

Yes, a pull knob would get my vote, too. All of my other brit cars worked like that, and the 67 corvette as well. Jaguars are an interesting build, in more ways than one.
