I just had a question that is probably very basic but, here goes.... I am thinking about building a dream car of mine; an XK-E with a 1990's 6.0 V-12 with a TKO 6 speed manual transmission. My question is, can you put a 6.0 V-12 in a series 1 or 2 XK-E, or just in a Series 3? I like the Series 1 & 2 the best but, I specifically want a fuel injected V-12. Thanks for any advice!
Hi Childeric,
Putting a V12 into a series 1 or 2, short WB has been done sort of, but it is a major undertaking. XK unlimited did it and Jay Leno now owns it. The V12 frame rails sit further outboard than the 6 cylinders..
I planned the same project. But I backed i down to installing EFI on the original rebuilt 5.3 engine. I have a new 6.0 v12 intended for a XJ40. But I found that there are a few changes to the timing chain cover casting as well as a different oil pan. I got as far as finding a E-type oil pan, the 6.0 induction system, and the right ECU but then backed down. The 5.3 had already modified to a 9:1 compression ratio, and the 1988 XJS induction, ECU and harness fit nicely into the XKE. So the 6.0 parts went back on the pallet rack and I'm enjoying my as-it-should-have-been 5.3 EFI XKE.
