Hello
I have a Jaguar F pace and while backing I hit the top on the garage door . The plastic over the antenna broke and came off with some scratches on the roof. I went to Jaguar dealer who pretty much told me it will cost 10K dollars to fix it as they will replace the antenna and have to take off the roof to fix the bump underneath - tiny I can’t see. And the side rails will be replaced due to scratches. I went to a local body shop who said he will fix everything as is but still has to take roof off but won’t replace anything may be just the antenna and gave me a ball park 1-2K. The guy is working for 30 years with luxury cars and sounded legit. I am confused as to what to do - dealer using insurance vs pay out of pocket with local body shop. Please advice if this is something not extensive to be fixed by local body shop.
Maybe paintless dent repair (PDR) can address the roof dent and a good detailer can perform some basic paint correction on the paint scratches (maybe make the roof bars look better too). I imagine the shark fin internal components can be replaced as a unit (unplug old harness, plug in new one?) but I'm not 100% sure. Also not sure if additional programming is required by a dealer or Jaguar service tool to pair the antenna with the car. But I think you can get this fixed (acceptably) for way less than $10k quoted price. The $1-2K quote seems way more reasonable (I'd probably do that and move on, likely not worth an insurance claim on your insurance record).
