Default F-Pace reliability...

Our XF sedan will be 11 years old this spring, and while the mileage on it isn't excessive, by any means, we're still thinking or trading it off for something newer. We're considering either the Jag F-Pace or the Rover Velar. I'm a little concerned, however, as some of the reviews I've read, with respect to reliability, have been questionable. Anybody here, have any personal experience they can share?

So how has your 11 year old XF performed ? You could also look at the new XF made mostly of aluminium, as is my XE and also the F-pace. All the current Jaguars are pretty reliable compared to 11 years ago, so I don't think you should have any fears in that regard, and anyway you have the warranty which is now 5 years/60k miles whichever comes first.

I had an F-Pace last year as a courtesy car, and it was "OK", but being short in the leg, I found it a PITA getting into it !

Our XF has been very reliable for us, and our decision to trade it off, isn't 100% definite at this point. As I've mentioned a couple of times in the past, on this website, my wife got plowed from behind, in our 2012 XJ-L, 3 years ago, totaling the car, and that crash really "rattled her cage". Fortunately, she wasn't hurt, but sadly, she's no longer completely comfortable in a car any longer. Therefore, as we contemplate replacing the XF, which is her utility/winter car, she wants something a little larger feeling, so another sedan won't fit the bill.

I maybe assuming too much, but it seems to me, that the F-Pace and Velar are "cousins under the skin", and a couple of the reviews in the "gearhead magazines" have skewered the Velar for electronic glitches, although those reviews were of 2017-2018 models.

Perhaps keep the XF until you ascertain that the new car is what you're looking for? You can always get more for it selling privately than what a dealer would give you.

We're definitely keeping the car until we have a replacement lined up. In fact, I just put the snow tires on it, two days ago. And although we'd most likely get more money out of it by selling it ourselves, I'd feel bad if we sold it, and within a short period of time, something went wrong. If it were a $500 car, I most certainly have very little conscience, as at that price point, it's a "pig-in-a-poke" sort of deal, but when getting up in the $8-10K area, a potential buyer is most likely looking for solid, reliable wheels. So, we'd most likely trade it off to the dealer, and let them take the responsibility for providing a warranty to the next owner.

So, I'm back to my original question.....anybody have any personal experience with either the F-Pace or the Velar?

I have the F Pace SVR (also Ftype R and XF) and all these cars have been excellent for maintenance over the years. The SVR is close to one year old and all good, as well as a great car to drive.
