Does anyone know why Jaguar gave the F Pace such a small tank?

 

It's my biggest concern about getting one. Really too small. A couple more gallons would have made a negligible difference

ha! quite true. How much difference in size and weight would an 18 or 19 gal tank have made? really! I just love the look otherwise and can't wait to drive one. If that lives up to the billing, I may be able to overlook the tank size.

 

Care to tell us how big the fuel tank is?

BETTER GET at LEAST 26-28 MPG HIGHWAY OR THAT IS A DEAL BREAKER! I DRIVE 375 MILES TO MY HOUSE NON STOP ROUTINELY. Better have at least 1-3 gallon reserve after that trip.

 

My bladder would be the limiting factor on a drive that long.

 

I agree that an 18-20 gallon tank would be nice, but it's hardly a deal-breaker.

Meanwhile, Tesla owners the world over are wondering what the fuss is about.

 

True. Another first world problem. I'm still very interested in the FPace to replace my wife's QX60.

 

It's funny that the XF which is the sedan version of this vehicle has a 19.55 gallon tank and is estimated to get 24 MPG combined with the 380 HP engine and is at least 300 lbs. lighter than the FP. So you do the math. 456 miles on the XF tank and 384 of the FP. I would think that numbers are stretched a little but in any case 300+ miles on a tank is good enough for me.

 

Hello Mbourne...."SLojotaa" here from F-type forum. I too ordered one for me, and am replacing my XJL (heaven forbid my F-Type ). I did this based upon first physical presence of this F-Pace at the dealership in NJ this week. It feels like a perfect compliment to my baby, the F-Type.

What I find difficult to understand, but respect is folks opinions that a size of a fuel tank would be a deal breaker? If you haven't seen one up front and personal.....check it out. It looks better in person than ever, and is a work of art for it's intent and class. Somebody put great thought into it, and I even checked into the quality of this stereo this time (LOL, no F-Type posts on the rattles and hums on the Meridian......as you probably would guess I would be checking into closely)!!!

Thanks. Can't wait to see one in the flesh so to speak! I really do like it from the photos and specs. The gas tank is not a deal breaker but it does annoy me a little but I can live with that. My FTYPE deserves a sibling.

 

Tesla is undricveableas well as you can't even charge back up in 5 minutes but EVERY touring class SUV should have AT LEAST a 400+ mile range, even my Evoque has that.
Real world mileage at 80mph. 25mpg x 18.5 = 462+ This is just plain dim witted engineering.

 

I am sure this was done to increase cargo space and save weight. Sport bikes typically carry about 1/3 less then a standard bike.
I agree that at least 19 gallons would be ideal. Real world you only have about 15 gallons useable. 15 x 19mpg = 285 miles. Hardly a situation of needing to fill up daily.

 

I may have missed the comparison, but my 2013 XJ SCV6 goes a long way on a gallon of gas. Admittedly, I'm not doing a lot of mountain driving. but if I'm out on the Interstate, with the speedo set at 70 to 75, the trip computer is giving me a solid 23 to 25 mpg. For a 4-door sedan that's pretty good! NOw, the F-Pace with essentially the same engine, albeit with possibly different gearing ratios, ought to be able to achieve something near that. Where am I wrong? I tried to find the gear ratios but ran out of time or I couldn't find them.


I'll admit, there's great comfort in knowing that a full tank will get you (pick the distance) even if one knows there will be stops.

 

I have a lot of love for my 1988 Hess & Eisenhardt Jaguar XJS. Yes, the file system has a lot of issues. On hot days, due to the strange setup of the two gas tanks, the car will go into vapor lock and shut down. I try to park it in the shade when away from home, and try to keep the tank full. A full tank of gas seems to keep cool, but you had better be careful running on a half tank of gas.

I bought a 1991 Classic Collection on eBay as a parts car, wound up fixing it up and have been using it as my daily driver for 4 years. I love driving both cars, but, "Red" my 1988, gets all the attention, every time, and I mean every time I take Red for a drive someone has to compliment me on the car.

 

30 years ago, I wouldn't have given that a second thought, but today, yeah, it's a concern.....

 

After I took delivery of my new F-Pace R-Sport in 2017 I was sent a questionnaire by Jaguar. First complaint was gas tank was too small! I am told when the SVR made its appearance that the tank capacity for all F-Paces was increased.
As an aside the dealer sent me an offer to trade in my car on a new R-Sport. They offered $35K for the trade in. Really not interested as my car has had zero problems.

 

According to the iGuide mine (UK spec) has an 82 litre tank - that's 18 UK gallons and 21 US gallons
