Default I want this car.. but...

Hello,

Im interested in buying a brand new 2017 35t Base model.
Has some nice features like Navi, weather packages etc.
the MSRP is exactly $46,026.00

When I went to the dealership and decided I wanted to buy the car->
I sat down with the salesmen, and started to negotiate a price->
to my surpise the salesman said he wanted EXACTLY $46,026.00 and not a penny less....
Gave me some BS story that Range/Land Rovers & Jaguar dealerships have AWLAYS sold their cars are exact MSRP prices.. (No negotiating etc.)
THIS CANNOT BE TRUE...
can someone confirm this?

All i wanted was to feel like i got a GOOD DEAL on a car..
I can't pay the EXACT MSRP price... nobody does that..
I just wanted like $2k off or something..i was so upset i left the dealership feeling completely disrespected..
I mean the guy actually wanted the $26.00 as well.. unbelievable..

Any tips from you guys on how to negatioite a price would be greatly appreciated!
Should I ask to speak to the manager?
I can't imagine the dealership would want to lose a sale over $2,000??

They can ask for whatever they want, but it doesn't mean you have to buy from them. The car is new and selling well, so they are optimizing profits while they can. Try a different dealer or wait a few months.

It's a new car in the SUV market that is booming, and if the car is selling like hot cakes, they are not going to discount them. My neighbour had similar a few years ago with the Fiat 500 that his wife thought would be a nice second car. He could not get a discount anywhere, so in the end they bought a small Suzuki, and still have it.

There are zero price breaks from MSRP on these right now. There is a backlog of demand and 6-9 month waiting list in most cities. Just be happy yours is only $46. I just parted with $96k (after taxes) for mine.

The salesman's response is total BS. You should try another dealer. When I was shopping, only about 50% of dealers were willing to actually ... deal.

This is nothing new for the auto industry. When they have a hot product they get sticker; or more. In some cases lots more. Basic law of supply and demand at work. The sales guy wasn't picking on you, he is simply making hay while the sun shines. If you don't pay the price, the next guy will.

You won't find a deal on F-Pace for a long time, and XE will only have small deals available.

The two newest and hottest cars in the segment (both incredibly well reviewed by the mags).

However, XF, XJ, and F-Type all have discounts going on right now.

I got $10,000 off my 2016 XF. But if you HAVE to have F-Pace, sticker is the price to pay for the time being.

That said, you can always try to see if you can get a discount via a broker (mine is the one who got the $10,000 off) or an auto-program such as Costco.

I saw a blue one on the beach today. It's hard to tell from a sea of SUV's until I got closer and saw the leaper badge. It looked okay... didn't see any wood inside. A Jag is not a Jag without wood.

If I decide to get one (unlikely), it would be in 3 years and at 1/2 off.

Jaguar dealerships are just car dealerships, less than some now since they have a new found arrogance.

I would also strongly advise checking out the Yelp reviews of the dealership. The local dealer in Austin is simply TERRIBLE and is the only one in this city for the time being. Liars. Cheats. Disrespectful. Pretty much soured me on my beautiful XJL.

You can get wood trim in every Jaguar model except the F-Type, and that means that wood IS available ini the F Pace - and I agree that a Jaguar interior without wood just doesn't look ride (except in the F-Type).

If it's the vehicle you really want then why not go for it? In the end 2 grand is isnt something that should keep you from something you really want, but the buying experience is. Try another dealership because Jaguar never allowing a deal below MSRP is not true. To put things in perspective, I was at a Ford dealership when the Ford GT came out ~10 years ago. The owner told me the MSRP was $150k but they had sold one for over $300k because of the high demand. Similarly when the ZR1 C6 Corvette came out the dealers in my area all had $20-40k dealer markup printed right on the window sticker.
