Default Jaguar F-Pace crossover confirmed

... On the eve of the Detroit Auto show.

Jaguar SUV To Be Called F-Pace, Go On Sale In 2016

Interesting that they chose to extend the 'F' moniker to cover their suv crossover. Ian Callum is quoted saying it's because it shares more in common with the F type halo model than other cars.

In reality I'd bet it's a marketing play to head off the inevitable questions around differentiation from the Land Rover lines.

Also, new teaser released which seems to underscore the 'F' like personality for the vehicle....raw, muscular, performance oriented.

Not sure about the name, but that's a great video.

I agree. I think it's a rather non-sensical name choice. However, I've haven't understood Jaguar's model naming scheme for the few decades. Even the F-Type was a bit odd since there was already an XF in production, and in the U.S. the "E-Type" was referred to as the XKE.

The more I think about it, the name F-Pace cheapens the uniqueness of the F-Type. Q-Type would have been so much better....

+1
Felt like in their ardor for creating a different concept from land rover they overextended the F-Type brand.

The name looks to be derived from the very old Jaguar marketing phrase from Bill Lyons time of 'Grace, Pace and Space'.

They could have had G-Race or S-Pace. Equally uninspiring names!

That's exactly it!!! I hate that they are making the F-Type into a brand!! It's such a cheesy move that ruins what the F-Type is.

Porsche did not call the Cayenne the 911X. As it is, a Porsche SUV was tough to swallow, but 911X would have simply been blasphemy!!!

F-Pace is blasphemy. Sad.

Well, I did not think that they could do any worse than actually building this soccer mommy abomination, but they actually did do worse by destroying the F type halo/mystique in the process. Stupid car and a stupid name

They are trying to copy BMW by making several version of the same series, as I predicted before. Sadly, most people buying Jaguars are running away from precisely that idiotic dilution of the product.

If the "pace" part was taken from Sir William Lyons "grace, pace and space", the name of this thing should be "D-grace" for disgrace

Interesting article discussing the F-Pace name with Ian Callum:

Jaguar F-Pace was nearly called X-Type | Auto Express

Reading between his diplomacy, it's pretty clear that he didn't like the name and would have preferred others like "X-Type", even with the name conflict with the previous Jag model. IMO there were plenty of other viable options...L, G, U etc

It also suggests he was pretty reluctant to enter into this category. Ralf Speth came from the BMW behemoth so maybe this is the uglier side of his commercialism showing through. The Speth-Callum dynamic will be pretty instrumental in balancing out the dilution of the brand in the coming years as Jaguar maintains its unapologetic expansion ambitions.

Well that's a little tid bid I did not know. Speth came from BMW. This makes a lot more sense now. We should prepare for 3 different sizes of these "crapover" SUV's in the very near future.

I find Callum very honest in his interview about the F-Pace (wretched name, can't say it) process. He had to eventually be convinced to do it, and when he did, he didn't care about utility as much as design.

I still detest this name....

Correct me if I am wrong but I believe this is the first time Jaguar will have a word as part of the model type on the body. The Sportbrake just has the XF moniker on the rear.

I actually had high hopes for the CX17 but F-pace? Ugh!
