Default Service reminder light

Hello, the service reminder on my 2017 3.5 supercharged came on at 23000 miles, took it to the dealer since it had a service contract, they said service was not needed until next May 22, and added that those service reminder lights do come on randomly and should not be trusted. I think that is BS. What do you think?

I think, they can do the reset but don't have the time to do it.
But you can do it yourself,
This is what I did to mine to reset the Service Service Required Warning Light
1) Driver side door open & Hood/Bonnet raised open
2) Turn On by pressing the Start/Stop button without your foot on the brake pedal
3) Step on both the gas & brake pedals all the way down until you get the confirmation the warning light has been reset. I think it takes about 10 secs. Just follow the instructions on the instrument panel. When you see press OK that means it's done.

Thank for the turn off procedure, definitely useful, however what I was curious to know if the dealer was full of …, saying the light comes on randomly.

is there only one service light with jag?
there can be 2 - 1 for an engine service and 1 for more of an inspection service - brakes etc
on audi the inspection is a set interval i believe, on BMW its very cleverly pre-programmed, and why fitting OEM parts is important, they are designed to a certain spec to last a certain time so the light will come on based on that. I reset my inspection light after checking all was well.
A year or so later i got the brake pad light tripped by low pads only to discover that the sensor is separate and can be reused if not tripped, however i did wait for it and it needed replaced at the same cost as the pads!!!
I guess what i am saying is the lights are not random - to ignore lights in modern cars can get costly.

Best bet go to an indie and see what they say, they depend on their reputation, cant hide behind a big sign....
