While it is true that monitor color representations are notoriously flawed, a SRR sample from a Jag dealership would be a way to directly next to their IRR for us to see the difference?

 

I saw a program on how cars are manufactured, unless its a very high volume line like a ford fiesta or something, they pretty much change the colour of paint in the spray booth for each car coming through the productions line as with the Ftype they are all bespoke orders, As far as I know they don't do 20 IRR then 20 white etc, they change it for each car, so whilst a metallic paint might cost about £50 more in raw materials, the rest of it is just charging more for more desirable colours as far as I can see it

 

dave_Sw1 Thank you for making that point. I can understand that there is an additional cost for certain materials (e.g. metallic versus flat paint), and that there is a cost associated with offering additional colors and options (someone has to check the box and there is another line in the catalogue), but with just-in-time inventory and modern computer assembly management, the cost of offering an otherwise catalogued color can't justify 9K. Now if you are Porsche and doing completely custom colors, matching a piece of clothing (you will note I did not say undergarment) for example, I can see the pricing being different. Another aspect of what you have observed is that in addition to cost and pricing, why are not more colors and options offered in the first place. If the line is doing purple cars for the UK why can't it do them for the US. Indeed I would think there would be some cost savings having similar offerings on a global basis. Now there are regulatory constraints, but I doubt if there are very many of them.

 

The swatches are pretty useless, as usual.

My IRR definitely looks like the SRR not like the IRR one.

I think I will start calling it SRR though, to inflate the perceived value of my IRR.

the Ultra metallic paints, if they like the ones I've seen on lamborghinis, DO take more work to apply (more coats, etc), and are significantly more sparkly, so I understand there being a premium in that case.

Like everything else for sale a price can only be as high as someone is willing to pay. At these prices very few people will order them, but dealers might!

 

Caldera Red is stunning and is available as standard metallic solid color

 

From Pictures the Caldera Red and the IRR does not look much different, but I guess it also depends a lot of the light present as the IRR might look very different in different lights. Here are two equal pics of my IRR:

Caldera is very close to Salsa (they're both non-metallic, so lighting doesn't matter quite as much as it does with metallic colors) - Caldera is on the right, Salsa is on the left. Salsa is a tad warmer.

Yes it is, which is one reason why photos of it vary so much. Salsa left, IRR right...

 

To me, $8900 seems a bit too pricey for a factory paint job. For that money, you could go to a paint shop and get a fully customized paint job.

 

Might be a good idea to wait for the 19MY configurator to be active then we’ll know for sure what the paint prices are.

 

I assume you're paying for exclusivity in addition to fancy paint.

At those prices they will be very rare which might make it worth it if price doesn't matter, there are plenty of people out there, just look at optioned 911's!

Why then if you order SVR it is only available in limited number of colour options

 

There are 15 ultra and 3 special colours for the SVR.
Plus 7 standard colours.
Looks like most colours are available for all models.
