Soft (Xpel) - over the top of hard (Opti-Coat/9H) makes sense to me, not the other way around. Soft coatings like waxs over the Xpel, fine. So harder to softer - paint to Opti-coat - Opticoat to Xpel - Xpel to waxes

I agree. That is what would make sense to me.

XPEL says do it the other way around because inexperienced installers sometimes have trouble getting it to adhere properly. It causes them less headaches to make that recommendation, but it's not the best recommendation for protecting the car.

Regarding whether to wrap the body-colored bar, you might want to wrap it anyway, in either clear or black. I had my bumper bar painted to fix license plate bracket hole damage, and after a short period of time it started picking up rock chips.
I thought that is the way it should be as well. I asked about that on the last vehicle that I had done because I thought the Ceramic coat would be applied to the paint before the xpel.

My detailer did wrap the bar already. He figured it would be best to do it now in case I decided not to replace the bumper.

I actually like the body-colored bar in IRR, but not sure I'd say the same for other colors.

However, I would not replace the bar, but do what Unhingd said, and just wrap it in black. That way it's already rock-chip protected as opposed to putting a new naked bar on.

BTW, your car is drop-dead, gorgeous.

Thanks. I've decided to leave the bar as is. It's already wrapped with xpel and I can live with it. I need to focus on enjoying it for now.

My detailer did a blog post about the work that he did on my car. He found problems that I didn't notice when I purchased it. I appreciate the attention to detail that he has shown my cars over the years.

The same job of paint correction was done on my car by a pro detailer as well (also IRR) with some of the same imperfections. Here are some of his pictures during and after the work:

» 2014 Jaguar F-Type R Krokeide Bilpleie

I was very satiesfied with the result, and even more satiesfied 15 months later, as the coating is just as good now. No new swirlmarks from washing/cleaning, and the finish looks just as good now as it did after the job was done.

I looked at that page a few months ago before I got my car. Your detailer did a great job.

Thanks - nice to hear. Your detailer did a great job as well, and I think you did a very smart decission by getting Xpel on top. I wish I had done the same, as I have picked up a few stonechips last summer.
