Default 2018 F Type R Convertible - Rear hitch receiver

Hi all! New to the forum so apologies if this has been covered elsewhere before. I am desparately seeking the hidden installation of a 2” (or 1 1/4” if needed) hitch receiver - so that I can attach a bike rack, golf club rack and/or other racks which will help me expand the relatively useless space in the boot for when my wife and I head out for long weekends. I know it seems like sacrilege, but I’ve seen it on many Porsche 911’s, Corvettes, and other sports cars so am interested in whether or not anyone has solved for this. Am talking with the owner of Stealth Hitches, who seems to be interested but he’s far away (I’m in suburban Chicago).

Would sure love a solution - even if someone locally knows a great quality fabricator shop who could do something. Check out the stealth hitch site, though, as I think that would be a great solution for anyone who is looking for some added functionality, especially with the convertible.

Thanks in advance and as for the car...my gosh, I love it!!!!

There are a few strap-on cargo bags, which I've considered, and various strap-on or suction bike racks for the coupe. You'd have to cut a hole in the valence; think you'd lose way too much clearance if it went under it. But don't believe it's been discussed here - until now.

That'll be a tough order. Nothing of sufficient substance to bolt it to behind the muffler and not really enough ground clearance to run the supports under the muffler to get suitable mounting points in front of the muffler. Besides, the cantilever under the latter circumstance would put excessive forces on whatever mounting points you find. The hook and strap variety of rack may be your only choice, but that's an iffy proposition on the aluminum and paint.

I looked into that several months ago and I was told that it was discontinued (at least the V6 version)

Thanks all. Will take a look at the factory option (worry that FTYPE17 has already figured it out though).

If we could get someone to make something which in fact is usable and doens’t harm the paint and is functional, I wonder the interest it might have...

It’s in the 19MY brochure for V6 and V8.
I guess it doesn’t mean it’s actually available though!

I'd be interested. Otherwise stuck with driving the MINI to a distant trail. (That's ok too, but it's not a JAAAG)

That's a lot of money to melt your skis! or at the very least lightly smoke them.

I have seen that. Just trying to muster the nerve to trust those suction cups.

+1. I've blistered the wrap just above the tail pipes.

You could always do what Team Sky did a few years ago for their pursuit vehicle at the Tour de France...

Thanks. I have seen this online as well. In fact I have spoken to the owner who is very interested in working with me That may be the next step. In talking with my local dealer the ski accessory is no longer available as was said earlier in this thread

I am still talking to the owner of stealth hitches but given the massive difference in our geography he is going to have to stop by a Jaguar dealer in Atlanta to see firsthand whether or not we can make a go.

if anyone is in Atlanta and wants a solution for this also I am sure he would love to visit with you

hello - avid mountain biker here, with plans to buy f-type convertible R. i have a bit of info i thought i'd share after reading this thread. and i am hoping someone may have more than i do, though i am starting to doubt it......

1) the seasucker suction cup racks are perfect. if you have the coupe, just get that. i have one and have used it mounted to the front and side windows of my hardtop BMW convertible just for fun and it works 100%. at 90mph. you could mount it to the hood if you wanted. it literally sticks anywhere. with proper attention and maintenance i cannot imagine it ever coming off.

2) the person to convince to make a hitch would be stealthhitches.com. i offered to buy one and drive it to him to spec out. he looked and said he might be able to do the V8 with the split exhaust. but then he declined. i don't know why. we have their product on an X5. it is wonderful. cannot even see it is there until you put the attachment on.

3) i also took a 2015 RWD V8 model to a local custom shop. place had testimonials from Ravens players on the wall. they said they could cut a hole into the rear and weld something to the metal beam that comes across, which would take a 1.25 or 2" bike mount. they were 100% sure it would be no problem and said for sub-1K they could do this and make it look good. i guess i would move forward if i had no doubt about them. but...... anyway if anyone wants their info, i am in Baltimore and happy to share.

4) i'd be interested in anyone's take on the Bird Auto solution. it looks flimsy and not very stylish in my opinion. but i guess it would be a decent fall back option. i basically cannot have a car without being able to stick my bikes on it.....

i don't check this regularly, so email at gscho002-at-gmail.com

geoff

Thanks, Blackcat1, keep us posted. Local golfing trips are served by putting my clubs in the boot, removing the drivers from the bag, and laying them in first. Ship Sticks could be used for more distant locations.
