Default Adapative Dynamics Fault? Battery Dead?

Hey everyone,

I have a 2015 Jaguar F-Type, and lately, I've been driving it less and less. Over the past few drives, I've noticed the electronics acting erratically—lights and internal systems blinking rapidly, turning on and off, etc. I also got an Adaptive Dynamics Fault warning.

I suspect the issue is related to a bad battery, as I've had a low battery for over a year. I reached out to my local Jaguar dealership, and they quoted me:
  • OEM battery: $750 CAD
  • Labour: $300 CAD
Would it be worth getting it done at the dealership, or should I buy the battery and replace it myself? I've heard something may need to be reset after installation—should I take it to a local mechanic for that instead?

Also, what battery would you recommend as a replacement?

Thanks in advance for your advice!

When I purchased my Ftype I had the previous owner buy a new battery as it was on the way out, IIRC it was about $500 from 3rd party vendor. I can dig up the info if you like since I'm also in Canada. Installation is extremely easy...

I used a $199USD Duralast Platinum (AGM) from Autozone. I didn’t bother to reset the BMS, though I’ve since bought an iCarSoft OBD tool that can do this.

You have to get a reset done, the eco stops working, not that I've ever used it. I don't mind paying 30% surcharge. I want to start driving the car again. Ill wait to see if anyone else has the best route before pulling the trigger.

Eco worked when I picked it up, so he reset it somehow? I had another reason to disconnect the battery and it has since stopped working, fine with me. Hasn't been used once since I took ownership over 7,000kms ago.

Given that you are using the F-Type less frequently, the very best thing to do (after buying a new battery) is to have a battery maintainer such as CTEK operating when the car is not being used. Low battery voltage is the explanation for the vast majority of malfunctions, including those you have found on your car.
A new battery must be fully charged before installation! Regarding the ECO stop/start not functioning, this can only be considered a blessing.😃

The OP’s 2015 should have a 2nd battery for ECO mode, which is very likely dead. Replacing the main battery won’t fix ECO. I removed my 2nd battery to save weight and make sure ECO never comes back. If for some reason you want ECO, you should replace the 2nd battery too, which is more difficult. It’s about the size of a motorcycle battery.

I think it was 2016 when Jag eliminated the 2nd battery.

Your car has an AGM battery and that is what the replacement should (must) be, but make sure that the battery is fully charged before installing.
