Default Adding an extra heat exchanger

Being that I live in Texas and this heat is crazy. I decided to add a extra heat exchanger to my car. My mods are dual pulley, intake, methanol, tune, and 300 cell cats. Heat is the enemy. I had a stock heat exchanger from a Audi s4 and the size was perfect. I did a little trimming, made some brackets and it mounted up great. I used clear coolant hose here to make sure everything was flowing great etc. The end results were that I increased my coolant capacity by 2 quarts and the car is way more consistent. Coolant temps have also been amazing too.

How did you route the hoses?

Ran it out the pump into the exchanger, then back into the hose that originally came out the pump.

I'm not sure if the FType has headlight washers but the XJ does and I'm wondering if it might be beneficial to use the existing plumbing to rig up an heat exchanger mister...

Yes it does have headlight washers. That would be really simple to actually rig up lol. But with the extra heat exchanger and meth. Heat is not an issue for me at all lol.

I went with a much better heat exchanger on my SVR. I also upgraded the pump. Much better results.

@Terrance39 is so modest. His new setup is sick. He has been nice enough to share some of the details he's worked on for this upgrade. If not mistaken, I think it adds almost an extra gallon of coolant and with the CWA100 pump, recovery times are significantly quicker. Great job!!!

Is there any concern that the new heat exchanger is blocking air flow from the lower grille to the main engine radiator?

No, not at all. You still have the upper opening. Plus i have seen zero evidence that would support that. I've been running this for a long time now.

I just finished this same project last weekend. Went with this exchanger:

Went with this one because it fits in the opening perfectly and both ports are on the same (pump) side. Also replaced the oe pump with a pierburg cwa150 and ran the new HX right in front of the oe one, plumbing it between the pump and awic's. Also disconnected the SC cooling system from the engine cooling system via adding a reservoir to the top hose on the oe SC HX and capping off the engine coolant side port that joined them. So far so good. Here's a couple very poor pics:

If you look at this diagram VAP kindly provided, it may help. I put the new HX inline on hose 8. Ran a short hose from pump out to new HX in, then attached the oe end of #8 to the outlet of new HX. This is why it's important to get a HX with both outlets on the same side or you'll be rerouting like crazy. #7 gets capped off on the engine side and a reservoir attached to it on the sc side. Hoses 5 and 9 stay where they are.. Minimal excess plumbing with this routing. This will also work fine without messing with #7 and leaving the two systems joined.

If you look at my pics above I had a decent size length of hose going from pump out to the new HX in. I started to worry it might kink when it got hot so I added a 90 deg elbow and got rid of about 6" of that hose. Much cleaner and won't kink. No pics though.

This is great information. Can you provide any details on the reservoir you added? Also, any additional photos of the installation would be very helpful.
