Default Buying a 2017 F Type Base? Might be worth waiting

Looks like Jaguar is dropping the entry cost on a base F-Types; might be worth waiting for those shopping for a base F Type...details in the link!

2017 Jaguar F-Type slashes $3,600 off base model

Out of curiosity, which makes throw in the servicing in the US?

BMW started doing it - with a truly remarkable increase in the projected life of consumables - without changing anything else...

Debasing the base. Wonderful.

In Canada, BMW does it fir 4 years, but Jaguar Canada only does it for one year.

Yeah. All those wondering about changes for 2917 now have their answer. Not really anything.

Only a very few will buy the stripped base. As soon as one sees the option list, a base car is long forgotten

Bringing it back down a good amount after the price increase for 2016. Wonder if this will affect the R which had the largest of the increases.

I didn't read that to mean that Premium is another model - it's still a trim/option package. I got that on my car.

Thanks for the info - an interesting read.

I wouldn't really say the price increased. More than anything they gave you $10000 worth of stuff for $4000 more.

The quoted reductions seem to apply to the base manual, which didn't exist until 16, and the ZF 8-speed automatic is a considerably more expensive unit than the ZF 6MT. I'm guessing the new pricing scheme will end up roughly equivalent to where the '14 vert started at 69K, but it's impossible to do an apples-to-apples comparison from that article.

I didn't say it wasn't a deal but it's still a price increase. It's like saying the S isn't a price increase over the base because they give you more stuff.

For the best deals, scout for deep discounts on the '15 and '16 models in about 60-90 days.

Hmmm, I'm thinking the JCNA rebate may be cut in the future, to cover some of this cost reduction. Maybe down to $1,000.

That discount usually doesn't include the new model year until several months into the year anyway, so that discount will not apply to the 2017s until at least next summer. It will still be good for the 15s and 16s most likely until they are gone.

I have been looking, has anyone found info that they are also slashing prices on the S? $3600 off the base solves my dilemma, when I started looking at the F type, I actually like the base model with BRG, black pack and suede sport seats but then you start to look at the S as being not much more, then it's so close to the crazy fast R, how can anyone pass that up! I was really hooked on the S, but like the tornado wheels and bigger brake option, plus a bit more power which I don't need but it was about $10k more for the S. But, I went to drive an R and the dealer has a 2015 XK for about $65k new and a XK-R with 1700 miles for about $5k more, that is the steal of the century and since there is no MT option I could get the XK-R now to tide me over until the 2017's come out but there are some great buys on the 2015 F type R and I am sure even more will come on the market.

Anyway, I have been bitten really hard again by the Jag bug, I have been interested in the M4, 911 etc, but nah, the more I look at them the funnier they look compared to the F-type in BRG and the big bad black XKR, I think those 2 cars are the most beautiful cars at any price, OK other than maybe the LaFerrari or 488 Spyder in blue! The XK interior looks a bit bling after looking at the new interior and styling of the F type!

Also has anyone found any concrete info of the next gen XK? Regardless I am sure the MSRP is going to be near Bentley's MSRP so it will be 4+ years before I would be in the market for one.

Read car and driver blog. The lower price is for a much stripped base compared to 2016. Even available options are very limited. Glad I bought a 2016.

"Stripped" to some means more desirable as in less weight. My ideal F-Type would weigh about 3200 lbs. max (actually much less, but trying to be realistic) and be as stripped as possible (e.g. no infotainment/nav, cameras, sensors, power seats or any other gizmos and creature comforts except for HVAC. That's the car I would have purchased had it been available in 2014, and the one I bought was as stripped as possible in that MY.

I think this is a step in the right direction (albeit a small one) by providing a wider range of choices to appeal to a broader market.

I remember seeing one with the brg and suede on cars.com
I don't remember where, probably in SoCal...

Among luxury cars:
BMW (4 years)
Jaguar (5 years)
Ferrari (7 years)
Cadillac (4 years)

There are a few mass market brands which also offer 2 years free maintenance - Chevy, VW, Toyota.
