I have yet to experience any linting from the towels I have used; various quality brands; but mostly chemical guys.

I use the Costco MF towels (2-3 to wash and 2 to polish with detailer, never on dry surface though) and machine wash after each use. Never any lint and they last forever. There's a few dozen ways to do it with out damaging the finish. BUT NO AUTOMATED CARWASH!

Yes! Rag Company is the best MF.

When you wash - make sure to use something like Micro Restore, but any basic detergent will also work.

Micro-Restore doesn’t just clean microfiber, it restores microfiber!

Never use any kind of fabric softener, bleach, fragrance etc. Never use any dryer sheets when drying.

Sounds like you have great grandchildren.. Good thing you live far away.

I've seen my boys make nuns with rulers cry. One moved to Vegas to pursue her new "dreams". A second became a real estate agent and another an attorney. I think the Vegas nun was the smartest of the three...

If you put the boys in a locked room with two bowling *****, one ball would vanish and the other would be broken in half. Neither would know what happened.

What could go wrong with them washing an aluminum car with soft paint?

On a serious note.. it's pretty hard to screw up paint that has a good ceramic coat on it... I'm pretty sure mine has CQuartz. I could probably wash it with a ratty tshirt.

I do use microfiber cleaner and detergent. I have tons towels of them so I can wait till I have enough for a full load. Never wash with cotton or use fabric softener. I don't care about the Costco yellow ones, I don't bother with them, they can end up with other laundry.

I like costco also but buy Cmemical Guys for use with their waterless car wash. I use a Chem guys micro fiber wash and fabric softner on all the towels to clean.

Amazon Amazon

These are the cloths I am using to dry the car. They feel really soft and good.

You shouldn't use fabric softener on micro-fiber towels and you should dry them in a dryer. Those actions damage the fibers and you end up losing the benefits of using micro-fiber cloths.

Never EVER EVER use a sponge - being a flat surface, it traps the dirt against the paint and will create those swirl marks quicker than a prostitutes knickers hitting the floor

Unless you've figured out a way to clean while going 70+ mph don't forget to raise the spoiler - power but not ignition on - and clean underneath it well. Easy to forget but absolutely necessary (since you will be going 70+ mph soon) and boy oh boy was mine filthy.

Good to know about the Rag Company.

I do the 2-bucket, MF mitt, Blaster Sidekick routine but the paint definitely is soft and to make it worse my car is black, so after 9 months I can see that it will need a light swirl remover application yearly. As the detailers say "black isn't a color, it's a career."

I use CR Spotless, Master Blaster and the 2 bucket method with grit guards. Instead of mitt's I use these Microfiber Wash Mops. It saves bending up and down constantly and also extends to reach much further than washing by hand. I label one with a "T" which I use for the top 2/3 of the car and the other with a "B" for the bottom 1/3 of the car which is always the dirtiest.

I noticed that my illuminated treadplates(?) had light scratching and in need of some polishing today so I had some metal polish. Made them look much nicer and 90% of the scratches are gone.

I was wondering if some film would be in order. I will try the polish. I noticed the aluminum finish door handle is subject to scratching. Do you think either of these parts has a clear coat. I'm wondering if scratching was behind the switch to black handles?

I know for a fact that the alu treadplates on the XF have an anodized coating, coz I tried to clean up one that was a bit scratched and I just ended up taking the coating off and making it worse, so much so that I bought a used replacement.
I don't know if the F-Type treadplates are the same, let alone the illuminated ones, but I for one would not be game to attack one with anything rougher than very mild polish.
