Default Check engine light after reading ECU

I used the ECU tablet provided by VelocityAp to read my ECU file. While reading the ECU the car cycled through all the error code. Once the scan of ECU was complete the car returned to normal but now the check engine light is on. How can I clear the check engine light?

Now its sort of fixed itself, now when I start the car it says service required but then the check engine light goes away?

You need to go to Pep Boys or some other car parts store and have them read the error code(s) and clear them, if any. Better yet, invest in your own code reader, and you can read and clear the codes yourself.

Thanks unhingd. I can't say how much I appreciate your help and knowledge in this forum. I'll do that tomorrow. Where can I get a code reader?

The VelocityAP tool can read/clear codes. No need to buy anything. Occasionally you do need to disconnect the battery for about 5 minutes to reset the vehicle's memory counts as well. Pretty typical, the F Type doesn't like when you use the OBD port haha

Both great points. I forgot that that the device could read and clear code. And if an OBD tap-in can mess with the energy control module, maybe it could with others as well. When disconnecting the battery, I've found that counting slowly to 10 is enough.

The check engine light following the read and after installing the new file is common. It will disappear after 5 starts. It leaves one code that is associated with the ECU read... something like "miscommunication with ECU".

I am not sure why you are getting the service required message. I would follow unhingd and stohlens advice and try clearing the code to see if that also clears the service required message. Then try the battery reset.

I am not sure how to clear the code using the VTech device. I went to Diagnostic and read DTC codes, it says there are no DTC codes, but I still get the service engine message when i start my car. I will try disconnecting the battery.

Well the "service due" message isn't something that is a "fault code" to be cleared as far as I know. It may be coincidence. I think there was a TSB K405 for service messages NOT appearing in the cluster...

A 'check engine' light is not the same thing as a 'service required' message. Your car is telling you it's time for an oil change or similar.

Oil change is a brand new car with less than 1000 miles? :-P Maybe the tune triggered something? I haven't tried the disconnect battery thing. But its not a service engine light, it just says "Service Required" when i start up.

The service interval clock starts when they perform the PDI. How long did your car sit @ the dealer prior to you buying it?

It sat for roughly 7-8 months.

Might be due for its annual service (or if that was done they forgot to reset the service warning timer.)

+1. I just used the VAP flasher to download my base tune file . The check engine light came on the first time I started the car after the read. After 5 starts the CEL went away just like MI F-Type said it would.
