I think jjones you might be talking about a different part than what others have mentioned, still? jjones, are you talking about the (1-piece) spoiler that juts down below everything (including the 3-pieces of air deflectors) by almost 2" but is not generally visible? *That* one is easy to scrape against wheel stops and steep driveways because it is really low, plus it is not apparent that it hangs down below the already-low spoiler.

Default Do you even need to have this deflector on?

What happens if you take the deflector off and keep it off? Anyone really know?

So in all seriousness, is there going to be less downforce and any real issue with performance? If it's not noticeable and it just gets in the way, why not just take it off for good ?

It's not any significant downforce you would be losing, but cooling air no longer forced through the radiator.

I think he's talking about the flexible plastic piece below and behind the "chin spoiler." That's not forcing any air into the radiator. It's that lower plastic piece most everyone "dings" sooner or later.

Yes, that's what I'm talking about. So? What do you all think. If we take it off, it's not noticeable that it's gone, will look better overall and not have anything to hit in a curb or driveway? Should we just take it off?

It shouldn't make any difference, except at speeds you should never be seeing on a public road. At very high speeds it probably helps prevent the nose from lifting, keeping it more planted.

Mine's a little scuffed on the very bottom from a couple of driveway scrapes, but since I can't see it unless I get on my knees, I'm just leaving it on, but I probably wouldn't replace it unless and until it eventually breaks.

I've assumed it's sacrificial and may be protecting more expensive parts.

Shouldn't you need only the center peice as the side pieces don't get scraped

Unless you are traveling at super sonic speed, any additional air dam area below the radiator opening, even if behind the radiator will increase pressure in front of the radiator opening.

It's insignificant as far as radiator cooling is concerned. That would be like arguing, "I can't mount a front plate, because my car will overheat."

Thanks. I'm going to need a supply of these (and the side pieces too) when I lower the car.

Mount your plate over an opening rather than on the bumper (or underneath with sho'n'go), and see what happens on track days. That would certainly cause a greater issue than running without a lip.
If you note, regarding the lip, I was not declaring a degree of significance, just the impact, and am too lazy to run the calculations.

Since it is pretty much out of site, I prefer it as a warning system to tell me that I don't have clearance. I would rather scrape that and readjust vs scraping the actual splitter. It is like a curb feeler.

Uh, that was precisely my point, but I was wondering why you thought it was significant enough to issue this warning.

I know this thread is ancient, but for future reference to folks looking for the part numbers listed above (side and center air deflectors/chin spoilers: C2P22211,
C2P22212, T2R4160), I found a great inexpensive source for OEM parts. I just ordered all three parts online for $87 (shipping is extra). If something is not as expected I'll update this post.

The company is:
New Parts
209 River Hills Drive Suite 13
Nashville, TN, 37210
USA
855-505-2886
parts@genuinenewparts.com

and I ordered from www.genuinenewparts.com.

Hope someone else finds this useful.
