Default Coolant Pump

I read on other Jaguar model's forums that AJ engines had a flawed engine coolant pump that was prone to leaking, and that issue was remedied with an updated part around 2016.

I believe we share coolant pump design, however I have not read about pump failures here.

Is this an issue? If so, what MY does it impact?

I seem to remember 1 or 2 reported here. I'm sure somebody who knows for sure will comment.

Remember a couple mentions of this too. On my 2015, I smell anti-freeze every time I pull the car back into the garage, but I do not see any signs of leaking on the floor. And the coolant reservoir was down about a pint of coolant on the past 6 months - been meaning to take it in to my dealer....

I had the same symptoms as Chawumba.....maybe a little more than a pint when I checked. Never did get any warning about low coolant or see anything on the ground, but I could smell it.

Dealer replaced water pump and said something about a bearing wearing out in the original which would cause a slow leak.

I still think I can smell coolant occasionally, but the level hasn't changed noticeably since the repair.

The pump failure was on the 5 litre V8 engine only (not the 4.2 litre V8). I do not know if the V6 engine used the same water pump but there have not been any significant number of failures reported on those engines.

This was reported on XJ forums, where XJs with AJ V6 (the same engine as V6 F-type) were reporting issues.

Supposedly, pre 2016 AJ V6 and AJ V8 water pumps have issues. The fix is updated water pump design that was released sometimes in 2016.

Could someone with access to parts catalog investigate part numbers for F-type coolant pumps and if there is an updated part number?

A few years ago when I had the XKR, I had a very slow seep of antifreeze that did not leak out on the floor, but left a slight wetness around the pump.. it was replaced under warranty and was fine after that... my 2016 FtypeR seems ok.
