Spoke to Cavarina(?) the other vendor that was found to sell this, and that was what they stated... I agree, anything over 1k is a bit much for this...

 

Merryway is listing it for $820.00US on Aliexpress, and I believe it is all the same people at the source of it.
Jenny is the one responding to me when I write to them from their site on Aliexpress.

They requested that I show them the back of my unit, to see if it is a "one plug" or "something else"
I am currently half way into a 2500 miles trip, so I can't dismantle mine. Anybody has a picture of an early unit?

 

If its a 2015 car then you will most likely have the 'Bosch Unit' as merryway are describing it. You definitely have it if you have the meridian 770w system. If you have a SD card in your glovebox for navigation, then you have the single connector 'Harmon Karden' system as merryway are describing it. If you want a picture, look at thread on retrofitting the rear parking camera :-)

I don't mind being the guinea pig - I've reached out to Jenny and will do a full video review/write-up. I have a 2015 R w/ the 770w system, so it definitely could use something a bit more modern. I may be willing to import this via my own company to be a US based re-seller, we will see what happens!

Waiting to get the conversation started via WhatsApp but this would be terribly priced @ $1800. I am expecting it to come in at $800-$1000. Doing some internet research it looks like there are a lot of different re-sellers out using the same images under different company names (typical when it comes to AliExpress products) - in my experience the only way to be sure is to try!

 

It would be interesting to know if you can select the 'skin', the video seems to show one that looks like screen in my my16, and one that looks like the current gen of infotainment system. Jenny has quoted $1,200 for the unit for reference.

 

For a $500 group deposit, I will have our shop do a full step by step write up on a 2014 R w/ 770w.

Just finished chatting with Jenny. The F-Type unit comes in at $1150 and it would be the Merryway unit. We are working out a deal where I'll purchase the first unit with the requirement that I will do the install guide/review write-up and video review, and then organize the group buy. Hopefully we can get the group buy pricing closer to $800.

I was waiting on a quote from Jenny or Robin, but I will gladly join the group buy if it comes close to the $800 mark.

So, to clarify once again: there are only 2 versions possible? Bosch or Harman. Is there a sure way to know which one you have, other than taking it apart?

 

Good question, since I have the 770w system and according to the poster above, I should definitely have the Bosch unit. Jenny actually said if you do not have a CD player, it would be the Karman unit. However, I do have a DVD player under the arm rest, so I'm not sure how reliable that would be to tell.

Capacitive vs resistive should be easy enough to tell. A capacitive screen would work more like a phone touch screen, where only fingers would really be able to activate it. Resistive should allow you to wear gloves and still activate the buttons, use a stylus, etc

 

I'm interested in the group buy, if the price comes down to the projected level..
