Default Differential replaced @ 26488 miles

Over the last 4 weeks I noticed a rubbing noise coming from the rear of the car. The noise got progressively louder and I scheduled an appointment.

Have you ever had the ELSD shutdown due to overheating?

No ELSD shutdown from overheating. I guess I caught it before it got that bad.

Drive in the snow?

I've seen two anecdotal reports on that the electronic LSD can burn out from driving in the snow.

Did you hear the sound all the time when rolling or only under throttle? I have a high pitched metallic sound, like a ball bearing going bad that I try to identify and locate but only under throttle.

Yikes... I'm upgrading to the R-Dynamic from the Base so I can get the LSD for driving all year round (in the snow). Let's hope this problem has been fixed on the 2018's.

The R-Dynamic will have an old-school mechanical LSD. Play in the snow all you want. It's the V8R that has the eLSD.

mine is being replaced at 7500 KMS (4660 miles). I noticed a 'whirring noise' coming from the engine when under load above 110 kmh.... really high pitched - enough to be annoying even with music. The dealer located the noice quickly and was authorised to replace the diff within a day.... its now been 5 weeks waiting for the part to arrive.....

Default My eDiff blew itself apart at 9,000km

Chaps,

Speaking of electronic diff problems with V8 F-Types...

My car is a dinosaur - an MY14.

The main gear in my original diff had a geartooth defect from its manufacture and gave way at only medium revs - leading to major rupture of the diff housing, a rather rapid Failure To Progress, and an Andy Warhol-esque oil-on-bitumen painting under/behind/everywhere around the car.

The diff's electronic motor was left dangling. Dangling!

Was covered under warranty but took 17 days to have a new diff airfreighted from the UK and fitted up.

No problems since but on occasion there have been a few yellow 'eDiff Fault' warnings come up after hard driving - but it seems to have no real effect on vehicle dynamics.

Hope this helps.

Which model do you have? There are 3 different differentials for this car.

I made this video thinking the car wouldn't make the sound when I took it in. The Service Advisor heard the noise within the first 60 ft. You can hear the sound 10 seconds into the video.
Jfranks no snow I'm in south florida.

at just over 26k miles my rear diff is now being replaced under warranty too. '14 V8S. Will also take just over a week in order to get the diff in. Had one yellow E-Diff over heating warning once, maybe 2 years ago on the Dragon so no surprise there. No issues since until I noticed earlier this year a metallic grinding noise, primarily under throttle.

During test drive with service manager that was his guess too, a bad ball bearing. But called me back that same day that it was the diff.

My rear differential also replaced on 2014 V6S. Mileage was approx 43k. Grinding noise when making slow tight turns. All covered under warranty, although they had the car for 3 weeks.

So what are we suspecting the cause of this trouble.

I have the E-Diff.

Unfortunately Jaguar will never give us a failure analysis. I can tell you that my car was never tracked. Its driven 84 miles a day 80/20 hwy/city. I am very lucky no tune or pulley was installed as I can see them denying the warranty due to power train modifications.

I have pulley, exhaust and tune, dealer thought they would deny it but Jaguar did accept it the same day he submitted it.

Dealer said he submitted it as a "good will" because of low mileage, I would have fought a denial since I am within the drive train warranty both in time and miles terms.

Tuned or not, less than 2-3% of the miles are under full power, most trips are 2-3,000 miles at highway speed and less than a 100 miles spirited driving. The list is growing and includes low mileage, untuned cars ... a letter from a lawyer stating that the car is under warranty almost certainly will settle the case. The repair for Jaguar is cheaper than a law suite. This is not a car run on the track which you can easily determine.

Default Diff replaced at 52,000 miles V6S

My rear diff was replaced at 52,000 miles (2014 V6S). Again, loud grinding noise when turning, nothing when straight. Replaced under the Jaguar approved warranty.
