I wanted to update my maps in my F-Type - anouncement in the car : new maps available -. So I started like always. Get an empty USB-stick and go to the maps site to download a new map.
I bought the car in 2018 : they give two valid subscriptions for updates ' Europe and Russia 1 year' and 'Europe and Russia 3 years' .
So which do I choose.. Started with '3 years' .. First problem : cache memory too small. This never happened before and I use the C: drive only for programs. But the 19Gb remaining was not sufficient [ was before].
So I bought a new SSD and copied all programs.. .. finally with 160Gb free it started downloading.. ..for 8 hours !!!
Finally, I got into the car and progressed like always. Started almost at 51% and quit somewhere around 62%... Message : "Try again or contact dealer".. After 3 re-tries , putting the car to sleep and two more attempts, I had enough.
My son started checking the files and we discovered in a annex file it said " commercial name Europe and Russia " , but in the file header it said "North and Central America" ...
So maybe the system sees the car is in Europe, installing a map for the USA and blocks it..
But by then ... THE MAPS FROM YOUR CAR ARE ERASED !!!
It can be someone at HERE shuffeled the maps so in the US you get actually EUROPE AND RUSSIA and the result is the same ..
Do not update maps
