engine light and catalyst
Hello everybody,
I just createdd this topic becauses i need your help and your experience.
I currently have a Jaguar FTYPE R AWD V8 2016 with 40 000km.
Since 6 months, i have an orange engine light but no other problems.
"confirmed code : P0430 - catalyst circuit effciency below threshold (line 2)"
I went to see à Jaguar garage and the cleaned the catalysts and changed the spark plugs then they cleared the fault.
The engine light came back a week later.
I went to another Jaguar garage and they told me my left catalytic converter was dead and i needed to replace it.
I find this crazy for a car with 40 000 km.
I'd like to have your opinion ?
Disassemble and clean, reverse the oxygen probes, others ...
Sorry for my english ; I'm French

May be a translation problem, is your garage a dealership or an independent?
I suppose you could throw a couple new O2 sensors at it to confirm the bad cat.
If it is a bad cat then you get to upgrade to new sport cats!

If you have no warranty at the dealership then it's time to switch to a JLR experienced independent who will look further into the diagnosis. It could indeed be a sensor and I believe an Autel scan tool should confirm it. I wouldn't go back to whoever suggested cleaning the cats and swapping the plugs. It's either a bad sensor and we know they are bad because they've had to extend the warranty on them or it's a bad CAT which is rare but not unheard of. At that point it only makes sense to upgrade.
As for cat converters I understand they also have some type of extended warranty coverage in North American to do with EPA regs (six years???) and I believe there is an equivalent thing in Europe but again only for something like six years, if so the OP is no longer covered. He think he is now on his own so as you suggest it might be time for sports cats seeing as OEM cats are close to being unobtainium or at least on loooong wait back order, and they cost a small fortune.
