Default EPB Release?

I was poking around in the boot of my manual V6 2016 and noticed a small removable door on the drivers side sidewall. When removed, there was a sticker that said epb door (electronic parking break). Inside was rectangular black plastic device with a bright orange lever locked in place. Could this be an emergency release for the parking break?

Interesting. The 2014MY automatic doesn't have anything like that, though it does have a hidden way of forcing the transmission into neutral (which isn't covered in this document.)

Yep, it's an emergency brake release - just in case...

From experience It's important to know how to this. On my a Land Rover I've needed to do it twice, once when the brake module seized up (more likely on a Land a rover when you take it off-road as it is quite sensitive to mud and dirt). And once when the alternator died and took out the battery on the way and the car needed to be towed completely electrically dead.

From the document DJS posted though, it looks like if you don't have the release in the back then you have to remove the module from the wheel which is not an easy roadside fix, that's a worry if that's the case.

I don't like the idea of my F being skull dragged onto a flattop in the case of an electrical failure.

Why is this important information not in the owners manual. They show you the rather involved method of releasing the soft top( which took 5 seconds to do on my BMW).

No such thing on my June build '16 V6S MT Coupe. Might be unique to the convertible.

Or something that got left behind from shipping? They do have some special shipping modes they have to disable, and that doesn't really look solidly mounted, at least from the pix.

It's solidly mounted and the access door has a sticker that says 'epb door'.

Yep, I have it too, and I'd never looked behind that little panel before. Here's what it look like with the cover on.

I wonder where that module is located on the coupe?

Foosh,
Where does that rear tow hook screw in? (It's too short to work on the front).

I've never tried it, but I assumed that's where it went. There's a little removable panel on the bumper bar, and I don't see why it would be too short.

Yes, I have that one too, but it fits in a molded receptacle under that trap door. I assumed the short black one fit in the bumper bar (front tow hook), and the long silver (rear tow hook) fits behind the access door on the rear valence, since it's more recessed than the bumper bar.
