Default F Type Colours

Has anyone got side by side photos of the Salsa red and the Italian red they post or point me to ?

these are my current choices and I haven't been able to see either yet (black, grey, silver, white are ok, but just not for me)

Photos will not give you any real good impression of how they will look in real life, and in different light conditions.

You need to see both colors yourself, and both colors are also used on other Jaguars and Land/Range Rovers (if the dealers nearby don't have the F-type in any of the colors). The colors might have different names on other models though.

I made my decission to go for IRR when I saw a Range Rover Sport in that color with black roof and black pack.

I went with the Italian Racing Red. The metallic really pops in the sun. The Salsa red looked a little too orange to me. And, it is no longer offered, so you would have to find a 14, 15, or early 16. The new color is Caldera red. A little darker than Salsa, but not a metallic.

The picture below is from a cruise the PA/MD/NJ crowd did last fall. In the foreground is Firesand Orange, followed by Salsa Red, and then IRR.

Both Salsa and Caldera, which is the replacement for Salsa, are non-metallic colors. Caldera is a little more toward the blue side of the color spectrum but both are "red reds."

You're right, I think one of the RR red colors is called Firenze.

OT: Polaris white is Fuji white.
Our F-Type ans RRS are identical

ioneabee: given your location, book a factory tour at Castle Bromwich outside Birmingham. You'll see lots of examples. I did the tour a week after ordering mine and ALMOST switched to BRG. Unpainted "body in white" is georgeous and worth the trip.

Driving an XE in IRR for a forum review right now. It's definitely not a true red and I would classify it more of a cinnamon red metallic. That photo of the three in a row is a pretty good representation.

Her are a few pictures that shows how the IRR might look in some different lights. It can be very different in different lights:

Hey ioneabee, like you, I'm in the UK and had to make the same decision. I first saw the 2 colours side by side in the US on a hot bright sunny day. The IRR looked awesome in that sunlight. However, back in the UK, on a typical grey day, the IRR looked pretty dark. For this reason I ended going for the Salsa.

It's obviously down to personal opinion so I'd highly recommend you get down a dealer and check out the colours for yourself. Preferably a couple of visits. One on a drab day and another on a sunny day.

I'd go with the Salsa or Caldera as they look more sporty to me. The IRR, while it has a great name, can look to be Burgundy at times.

the more I look at the photos supplied (thankyou all by the way - some stunners in there), IRR would be my preference - Ref XJL ^^ above - my current car colour is black rose (a very deep burgundy in bright sunlight)

Agreed, it's burgundy without the purple hues. I that's why I called it a cinnamon red, more of an earthy base than a traditional burgundy.

The first F I saw was a Firesand V6S on the JLR test route across the Cotswolds. On 24th December 2013. It was "not sunny" at the time. It looked fabulous.

Had it not been an additional £2.5k that I would never get back, I would have specced it.

Salsa Red looks good in UK light throughout the year - even when dirty. IRR needs more sunlight to give it's best.

HTH.

Picking a colour was very difficult when I was looking for my F-type.

Having seen many different F-types in different colours after I got mine last May, I can only say I would have made the same choice again as it was so absolutely the right choice for me.

Could not be more happy with both the car and the colour It is however very personal, so I can easilly see why others might have a different oppinion.

Gibbsa: looks good, great pics - but what else could I say

To echo what others have said, you should never decide until you see the colour in the flesh. IRR wasn't even on my shortlist until I walked into the dealer and saw what was in the showroom, then suddenly it HAD to be IRR with black pack and 20" Gyrodynes (which aren't an option on the V6 so I had to buy at full retail...once you've seen your version of automotive perfection, nothing else will do!!).

Edit: although I do agree with F-Typical's earlier comment about IRR needing sunshine to really....well, shine. Perfect choice for the UK and all the great weather we see here, lol!
