This is stupid.

F-type, especially one with open top, is unsuitable for rally sport no matter what suspension modifications you do to it.

But it's a homage to the XK120, which also had a lot of headroom.
And it does have a roll cage and 6 point harness to pin you to the seat, which the original didn't have!

Someone decided to use a soft-top Bentley for a speed record a few years ago, and lets not forget that if you drive a BMW convertibles are - apparently - Motorsport products.

I think the light bar looks good on a Lancia Stratos...

...and horrible on the F-type.

I'm surprised the panels didn't fall off when it hit the ground, sure I suppose when it hit the ground it might have aligned the panels up better than some cars from the factory

See here for the official factory vids:
Yes, it's a pure PR stunt celebrating the XK120 rally car from 70 years ago and it was never intended to be a serious competitive rally car.
It even has the I4 2.0T in it!

So what ? That means its factory 300HP and 65Kg lighter then the V6 and more balanced then a V6 or V8, all very important for a ralley car..
I'm confident they can tweak it to 400HP for rallley's..

I think you missed the point Dan.
It's purely a PR stunt and the car will never be entered in a serious rally so the improved handling and balance from using the I4 is moot and I doubt it has been or will be tuned to anything like 400 HP.
Also, the XK120 had a six cylinder engine so it would have been more "true to the original" to fit this car with the V6.
But yes, the V8 would have been unsuitable due to being both too heavy and having too much torque.

[QUOTE=OzXFR;1987886...]I think you missed the point Dan....It's purely a PR stunt ... /QUOTE]

If you're right they can line up more managers to sack.. .. this money waster and the two-lips stunt costs a fortune fow which they don't get a single extra client.
They should have spend this money instead on a harmonised product that offers the same kit world wide ; so all 'in control touch' equiped with WiFi and 10Gb media storage,
and so on.. ..instead of stripping the cars for some markets. This way they P*SS off customers the already have. Not good thinking mr, Manager...

Personally I think it's awesome and looks fun as hell! Probably a drop in the bucket as far as PR/marketing budget is concerned... besides in a few years Jag may be all electric anyway. Good to see some folks still have fun and enjoy their work!

Man, you reminded me of what is, truly, a dream car for me. Coming from 4cyl Wrangler for 20 years to our GT soft-top, I am obsessed with luxury vehicles as overlanding/battlecars. LOL

This pistonheads article has a great comment that sums up my feelings, knowing it's 100% homage, PR, and just for fun (won't compete):

"It's completely pointless. I love it."

LOL.. and a nod to the funny panel alignment joke.... the photoshoot alone absolutely decimated that car. LOL =)
