F-Type R wet handling...
Hi All -
New to the forum.
I'm seriously considering the R. Had/have a bunch of Porsches, kind of bored with them.
Does anyone want to share real world experiences how the R handles in the rain? I live in the soggy NW, and want to know how practical a daily driver the coupe might be.
Thanks!

The V8S handles just fine in the rain so no reason to suspect the R is going to be any different. The car has a very effective rain mode which gradually eases in the power and eliminates pretty much all of the traction problems you'd otherwise have. Without the rain mode the car can be a little bit of a handful in the wet, with it on it's very manageable. I actually created a thread on this a while back after some heavy downpours here in the Bay Area. You'd expect the car to be a disaster in the wet but it's really not.
Can't help w/ real world (CA is in middle of drought). BUT, there is a rain/ice/snow mode that's suppose to help with stability in low grip conditions. Don't think it'll be a death trap car in the rain if driven in this mode + common sense.
It's fine as a daily driver but no way it'll perform as well as a 4WD Porsche in the rain. It's a RWD car and designed to skid a little even on dry pavement. But it'll work fine in the rain if you're just doing normal driving and it has basic rain safety features like abs/traction control and so on.
I live in the Seattle area and drive my R as a daily. I have driven in hard at the track in the rain and also driven it on the roads less aggressively in the rain as well. It handles really well considering it has 550 HP and 502 Ft/lb of torque. Comparing it to my Porsche Boxster Spyder it seems to slide out a lot less unintentionally, the wider rear rubber might have a lot to do with it. I don't drive it in the rain mode, I am either in D auto or in S Dynamic Manual (most of the time).
I spent yesterday lapping Monticello Raceway in a F type R. 135 + mph down the straightaways. Late braking. Hard cornering. Lots of wide-open throttle and maximum braking. The traction management system kicked in early. Even if wide-open throttle. The car will not let you do anything truly stupid. When we turned off the traction management system, it did spin the tires, let me slide the car and do all the fun stuff I like to do.
Nice car, if the a pillar was not so large and directly in my line of vision during hard it left cornering, I would consider one of these cars. My frame of reference is a heavily modified and supercharged Corvette C6 making 800 whpr.
