F-type Weekend
I was one of four lucky Southern California forum members who were invited to attend the Jaguar USA special preview at the LA Car Show last Thursday. In addition to attending, each of us received a new F-type to drive for 4 days. I went racing yesterday with my XKR at Buttonwillow Raceway (Bakersfield, CA) and while my XKR was towed up in our race trailer, I drove the F-type up there about 90 miles. The event was put on by So Cal Audi Club and convertibles are not permitted to participate in sessions, however, I was allowed to take it around the track one time during lunch, so that we could get the track photographer to take some pictures. Below are some of those.
My initial impressions of the F-type V-8S are:
Solid--everything just feels tight, connected. no loose ends.
Beautiful--nothing more needs to be said
Convertible top--beautifully crafted in and out
Seats--firm but comfortable
Nav Screen--vast improvement over the XK's but takes some getting used to
Radio volume button--oddly located, difficult to access with drink in cupholder
Sound--who needs the radio volume button or the radio for that matter, just incredible!
Ride--firm (though not as firm as my XKR), taut, controlled, GREAT!
Cabin--nicely done with a few exceptions, but very noisy with the top closed, far too much interior noise, including incredible amounts of road noise from the tires introduced into the cabin, far too much wind noise blowing through as well.
Steering--firm, sure-footed, good feel, confidence inspiring
Handling--Terrific.
I have another day and a half with my F-type and will report back again.
