Default Firestone Indy 500 tires

Any experience with these?

Surfing around Tire Rack, found some very positive reviews for the Firestone Indy 500 tire on high performance cars. It’s a UHP W-rated tire, not a Max Performance, but for those of us who are not headed to the track would this offer better treadlife, quietness and ride than even PS4S at the expense of unutilized higher limits?

For the money you’d save on these tires over the PS4S - treadlife and cost - those savings can be put toward a second set of wheels and tires for track duty (sport cup)?

My F-type will never see the limits of a W tire (168 mph) on Houston public roads.

Keep in mind, traction is the key for tires on these cars, not top speed. Firestones were never the tire of choice for road racers.

We are getting in two sets of them to test out (Track Nights) on a AWD and a RWD car. Will let you know. From speaking with other users (non F-Type) they raved about the grip

I was interested in these also, I read they are actually a Bridgestone tire originall.

They should have kept the Bridgestone label. It's got a better brand image.

I read the same thing, it looks like a re-branded Bridgestone Potenza RE003 that wasn’t offered in the US.

At the current prices, this might be an awesome “value tire” option for F-Type - especially if the tire offers equal or better ride and noise levels than Pilot Sports as it’s not a Max Performance tire. We will have to see about grip, but on AWD cars it seems like there would be plenty?

I never understood the rationale behind trying to save money on tires. Perhaps it's just me, but the PS4 is the only tire I would even consider for a street-car.

SVR... I agree with the sentiment but we’re talking about (what seems to be) an objectively excellent tire. If price always brought you quality I think you’d see fewer complaints about the PZeros.

We are talking about street tires; I hope to not see your car on streets near me at 168+ MPH.

Simple, if you are driving like a sane person, you only need an S rated tire costing less than half as much as a PS4. Of course, that stipulation would disqualify most of us.

All the Bull aside the Firestone Indy 500 are very good tires, maybe not quite as good as some, but I wouldn't be afraid of them. I've personally been over 130 MPH on them and they felt as good as any others I've experienced. I mean really how many times do we really get to go 168 MPH??? If you need to go that fast. By the High dollar tires Take the thing to the track and have fun!

The issue isn't top speed, but rather lateral and longitudinal traction. I take both to the limits on a daily basis. That said, I can't wax poetic on the benefits or shortcomings of the Firestones as I have never driven them nor seen any comparative test results. Would be nice to have a more economical alternative.

The speed rating is a big drawback for sure

FYI, the discount tire direct store on ebay is having a $100 off of any purchase >$400 until march 18 if you use their coupon at checkout. I just got Michelin Super Sports for the Jag's summer rims.

Great. Buy 1 tire at a time and get $400 off.

I've been running the Firestones since last October with no issues. I don't track so I don't need a "track worthy" tire. Commute 90 miles a day 70/30 hwy and city.

I never did like the PZeros so I would rank it much better. I would say ride quality is comparable to the Michelin Pilot Sport 4s. Again I don't track this is street ride quality. Also amazing both rear tires balanced to zero (didn't need weights). Installer mentioned it was rare to have two tires in a row balance zero.

My Uncle used to work at Firestone - it was quite fascinating to hear the process of R and D.
