I have had this issue three times now, figured I would ask around, see if anyone else has had the same issue. Not concerned yet... could just be a combination of a few things.
Here's what I got:
Started car, put it in reverse... car died. Drive indicator on the dash was flashing (R). Tried to put it in park. Could not. Tried to put it in drive. Could not. Turned car off and back on - worked fine.
Same thing a day later. But when I turned the car back on, it said in yellow in center dash (Gearbox Fault). Same thing. Couldn't put it in drive or reverse. Cycled power on car three times, nothing. Fourth time was the charm.
Anyone else with similar issue?

If it's anything like all the other modern Jaguars, I'm going to guess it's something to do with the battery...

I'm not sure if this is related to this, but you might want to check with the Jaguar dealer and mention this service bulletin to see if it is the same problem.

4,700 miles and I encountered the "Transmission Fault" situation. Cycled the start/stop several times and was able to eventually exit my garage . I'm having another re-curring "brake" amber warning so will be headed to the dealer next week to resolve a few break-in glitches. Sure hope these are isolated glitches.

They should run a complete diagnostics on your car... It should be found out WHY this is happening and the part(s) replaced... I dont even have a F-Type and this is NOT normal. The F-Type is more advanced then my XK's and I have had nothing of the like with my gearbox. Its got to be something and it needs reported immediately!!!!!
They used to say that Rolls Royces did not break down, they "failed to proceed". Sounds like a bad connection somewhere. Glad it was an easy fix.

I just had the same problem today 9/27/2014,with my 2014 Ftype. Turned car off. Got back in and started it and couldn't get it out of park. Repeated process. Repeated again and it worked ..Each time it said gearbox fault with the triangle warning sign. Will contact dealer and take in.

FWIW, I had a gearbox fault a couple of months ago. The car started, but wouldn't shift into any gear. Fortunately, I was at home and not in a bind. I restarted/retried a couple of times - same issue. However, about 30 minutes later, every worked. Nonetheless, I called to dealer. They said there was a bulletin to replace a brake pressure switch which could cause the problem. I was in and out in 30 minutes. I haven't had the fault recur. Since you've had several runs at it, I'd expect it would have been in the string of attempts your dealer has tried. But, just in case....Originally Posted by Anthony Cappuccio

I have this happen once about ever 100 starts and each time it takes more attempts of turning the car off and back on to get it to cease. 2 Trips to the dealership and no fix yet however this last trip they seem to have done something to attempt to fix it which is causing the car not to shift in automatic half the time. Forcing me to get very comfortable with paddle shifting.
Kind of amazing how some cars can sense when the warranty is coming to an end. Mine ends this month and the for the first time I would have to say its becoming quite unreliable.
