Post gutted cats

Hello everyone from FlipJag . This is my first post so please bear with me . Suggestion to all for a dollar saving performance exhaust mod . Pull your cats , gut them & reinstall . You will require a tune . Markedly less expensive than purchase of low cell cats .

I hope no one finds this offensive, but I've got to point out that removing the cats greatly increases the pollution emitted. Cats clean or convert up to 90 percent of harmful gases in your exhaust into less toxic substances. Removing it will cause more harmful pollutants released into the air. And it could also harm you directly. If for some reason these toxic fumes reached your car cabin while you are driving or parked with your windows down, inhaling.

I seem to recall, but can't pin it down, that a car burning unleaded gas without a cat creates more pollution than a car burning leaded gas designed to run without a cat.

My kids and grandkids, and yours, have to breath what our cars emit.

I'm also of the opinion that catless is bad. I don't see any upside, and considerable downside. The car is designed to work with them, and some report the even more free-flowing cats make the exhaust sound to raspy.

Same way we managed before the lead was removed from petrol - suck it up and get sick!

If you need to get an inspection and they use a tail pipe sniffer all your work is for naught??
Cats don't reduce performance and I leave them in place.

Not my first post but a cool weight savings modification is to take your entire interior out, buy forged wheels (I know forum members love unsprung weight discussions), and lose 50 pounds running around the block in a trash bag - you should pick up at least .04 seconds in the quarter mile. Youre welcome!

There is no question that following a catless vehicle is a bit on the annoying side, as the smell "can" be offensively strong depending on how well the engine is running. Nor is there any question that cats convert unburned hydrocarbons to H2O and CO2 and CO to CO2. But it may be good to note just what the cat is converting these pollutants to,,,, that would be CO2....

Agreed. I have another car that is catless (track-only car) and I can tell you, it's no fun on the road. It covers the cars behind it in a layer of soot, standing behind it when it's running will choke you, and it dusts its own rear end in filth when sitting at idle.

High-flow cats are the best of both worlds. If you can't afford to mod your car correctly, hold off on the mod until you can.
