Default handmade exhaust tips

interesting little f-type tidbit. the exhaust tips on the v6 models are handmade by the same guys who do bespoke ducati exhausts in italy. not sure if the v8 tips are also handmade.

I have to say the exhaust tips on my car are impressive. The first time I went to clean them I thought they would be some cheap piece of chrome wrapped steel, but to my surprise they were a very solid work of art. Nice job Jaguar!

Agree!
Jaguar decided early on to take advantage of motorcycle exhausts in the design of the f type.

Here's an interview with the head of Jaguar's sound team (yeah! they have one!) on the f type sound design:

Interesting article. Kudos to Jaguar for nailing the sound on the V6 & V8 perfectly while basically eliminating the need for an aftermarket exhaust to create smiles. Sometimes I question how they met the regulations with the loud noises this car makes at times, but if they say it is okay, it is good enough for me. It is nice that they put so much effort in creating the best sound experience without pumping fake sounds through the speakers like other manufacturers. Now I need to figure out how to get on their test team!

The regulations are different from country to country, but for many of them there is a total sound budget.

The way that Jaguar managed to get the rear exhaust to sound as loud as it does was to reduce engine sound from other angles and other parts of the car.

This is from an interview I read somewhere which I can't find right now because I'm on the road

"the best sound experience without pumping fake sounds through the speakers like other manufacturers".

I've read this before and curious which cars are doing this and why? (Oh, I get the why but why something "fake", literally and figuratively).

Thanks!

I don't consider mechanic based enhancements faking it. So Porsche is fine. But BMW actually electronically enhances the sound. They run it through a computer and then pump out artificial sounds through the speakers. You can't even turn it off. It's the difference between a high end pair of headphones that enhances the sound naturally and those noise cancelling headphones that sends out artificial sonds. or running through an EQ to tweak the sound.

Jay Leno's video on the F-type mentioned this.

"To give the driver a better feel for the engine, an exterior recording of the M5’s motor plays through the car’s stereo. The precise sample is determined by engine load and rpm. Some of the real engine notes are still audible to the driver, so the recording is more of a backing track."

I fine this very insulting, playing a pre-recorded sound track!

I know this isn't even supposed to be an exhaust noise, but it's the first thing that I thought of upon reading that

Work of art - a simple cleaning and/or touch is all the proof one needs - indeed!
