Default Hardwire Radar Detector

Hi, I am trying to hardwire my radar detector in my 2017 F Type R AWD. I have seen the previous post regarding the mirrortap wiring. Unfortunately, my wires are different colors (must be an earlier model) and do not seem to correlate with the switch and ground necessary for function. I would rather ask if someone has a wiring diagram before dusting off my auto multimeter. Thanks in advance. Joe

unfortunately a radar detector is basically useless inside a 2017 and beyond thanks to the IR-reflective wind screen. Several threads about this if you wish to read further. You'll do just as well to roll down the windows and listen for radar waves.

This is not true from my experience. I have a Bel STI Magnum mounted in the cut out and while the range is decreased I have gotten one save in straight easy terrain (around 1 mile detection). Also, I don't think that there is athermic glass in the rear, so rear shots should be affected even less.

For maximum protection, no doubt a remote unit (plus laser jammers if laser is a threat) is the way to go. However, in my case where I already had a radar detector, hardwiring it in the cut out does give some extra protection.

Someone need to come up with a wireless forward mounted sensor that will mount in the grill to transmit to a dash receiver.

The wire to the front mount unit is pretty easy. The way the trim pieces are set up on the F-Type you don't even have to poke through the firewall.
