I don't like the idea of drilling a hole in the intake tube as I'm not sure how to properly plug it up again.
I just used a teardrop-shaped piece of aluminum duct tape (the same stuff that I use to assure that stick-on wheel weights don't fly off). I grab the 'tail' to peel it back when its time for the treatment, then re-apply.

Only needs replacement every 3 - 4 times.

55k on car. OCI has been about 3-5k. JLR approved oils but I suspect that the key is not going to 15k for an oil change....use ravenol ecs with the lowest noack rating I could find for a 0w-20. May go to the EHS oil to get the new 6a timing chain protection (frequent changes may cover this anyway now with the older oil type...don't know). Also use top tier gas and bg44k every 2-3k miles. Cheap insurance.

Mechanic who had the engine apart to do the coolant pipes said there was no build up - nothing to do and likely at this rate nothing to do until at least 150 to 200k if ever. He was very impressed (has done a lot with GDI engines....so he knows the drill).

These engines are just really good in terms of carbon build-up compared to some other brands'.

So you've never done any intake cleaner treatments? No oil catch cans installed? You're just using high quality gas and oil and good OCI?

I wonder if there are differences between the v6 and v8 perhaps too?

Regardless, your experience is pretty interesting.

I'm also at about 55k miles. I recently had the supercharger pulled to do the three coolant pipes and the water pump. They did not note anything, and I'm sure they'd have brought it to my attention if the intake ports needed cleaning. My longest OCI was about 10k miles, but my annual mileage plummeted when I shifted to remote work. I pull an oil sample before every change and they've all been excellent. I fill almost exclusively with Chevron, both for my own convenience and for the regular dosage of Techron.

You v6 guys seem to be having all the luck ;-0

In all seriousness, yet another interesting account. I'm starting to think I may be overthinking this stuff and should just roll with high quality oil and gas, good OCI, really low amounts of miles on an oil change, and redline in the gas here and there....And of course the occasional Italian tune up, and see how things look. I'm eventually planning to replace all the plastic with metal, so perhaps an inspection could be done at that time to see how successful this "don't worry about it too much" approach is ;-0

Accounts like yours makes me wonder. After doing a fair amount of reading on this stuff, one take away impression I'm starting to have is that these Jag engines, in relative terms, are pretty good compared to some others for the intake build up issues. Some BMWs and Audis and such are apparently just brutal.

Default +1 on good gas and oil

my 2017 built early 2016, v6, manual with about 42,000. I live in north central Wisconsin and lucky to have 91 no ethanol readily available and ONLY use that. Sometimes when traveling I'll have to put some ethanol in him, but as soon as I get home, it's the good stuff. I do my own oil changes and have used LiquiMoly for the past 2 changes..(maybe 3,000 on the oll) and then send a sample to Blackstone. Never anything amiss according to what they have to report. I also use Redline about every 2 months during our driving season.. @ March through November.

Realistically, fuel and fuel additives aren't doing anything to reduce intake valve deposits. They're helping the injectors stay clean, which is a good thing, but the injection is after the valves.
