How do I disable auto start/stop?
However the other reason I scratch my head is that I NEVER even bother turning off the eco button because I don't remember or even think about it. Even so, I never experience an engine shutdown no matter what mode I'm in because of my habit of paddling a downshift when slowing down for a stop, and the engine always keeps running. The car reverts to automatic shortly after.
Obviously I have my paddles enabled to work in automatic mode.
OK, finally something I can relate to. If that's the case, I understand better because the V6 restart is silky smooth in my car.

I think even Jaguar agrees with you on this. The 2016 button no longer says Eco, it's A for Auto...
Given that, why do people whine so much about it?
All of your suggestions require changing driving habits, which isn't a solution for many people (myself included).
I scratch my head at why you are so confounded by people not liking the eco mode, when you yourself disable it.
Oh yeah...
I belong(ed) to that club as well.
However, I remedied the issues by replacing the stereo and disconnecting the eco mode.

Then, just whine on. Never had much tolerance for that.
I also said I've tried using it recently to see what all the fuss was about and find it completely seamless and non-intrusive.

Because when you forget, and the car dies, sometimes it doesn't auto-start. It's dangerous.
I've experimented with it enough to know that my car has no such glitches. I had it on a BMW, and it worked well. It's also on my wife's new MB C-300, and it also works well.
As I said in a previous post, I don't think any manufacturer would choose to equip their cars this way, but government regulations in both the US and the EU require fleet fuel economy targets or face large gas guzzler taxes. There is no such tax on the F-Type, as it would be itemized on the window sticker.
That would be a problem with the system in your car. If it were widespread, that would generate a NHTSA safety recall. Moreover, these start-stop systems have been around for a number of years now on cars from a numerous manufacturers. To my knowledge, there's been no recall on any of them. Thus, it's hard to make an argument with data that it's dangerous.

It doesn't happen to you because you use the paddle shifters 90% of the time.
I am not the only one who has reported this issue. It is fairly common. It happens to me when the car is cold, generally the first time the auto stop kicks in, maybe six blocks from my house.

When I first got my ftype, I used the Eco mode for about two months with no issues. After I figured it out, I actually enjoyed how it would shut my car off automatically when I parked if I did some things correctly. But I experienced the non start/dead car problem one time at a busy intersection when the light turned green. After that, I don't bother using Eco. Too dangerous for me for little benefit.
I think there is probably some software problem in the system. You would need to be using Eco mode for a few months for it to happen to you on that one random time. Testing it out for a few days or weeks, you may never encounter it.

This thread is becoming annoying... for those that embrace eco start..then all is good, and for those that don't like it...simply disconnect the small battery...takes about 5 mins. It's not complicated...end of issue.
It is, and I take part of the blame. I was simply trying to better understand why some people think it's completely innocuous/almost invisible and others think it's going to kill them.
I now take a pledge to never post in response to any eco-mode thread, but I have no doubts they'll keep coming over and over again.
*UPDATE*
So I've had my second battery disconnected for 7 1/2 months now. No issues.
Just reconnected it since I'm taking the car in for its first service. Drove around for a little bit then engaged the Eco button. Looks to still be good as the car turned off, and started right back up when I hit the gas. I'll keep it connected for about a weeks worth of driving then disconnect it again.
