Default How Much Better Is The Upgraded 10 Inch Infotainment Screen That Became Standard 2019

Just wondering if the updated infotainment system that includes a larger 10.0-inch touchscreen with improved functionality and graphics is really a big deal versus say the 2016-2018 cars that had the older system with the smaller screen?
Reviews have never been kind to the old system, claiming it was slow and clumsy. But, in terms of satellite radio etc. music access, and cellphone interfacing, is there a big difference in the newer system?

I'm quite happy with my 8" screen - I find the physical buttons handy to use. It's not the fastest screen I've used but it's perfectly satisfactory for my use cases. I don't use satellite (UK), just a USB stick with MP3s on it and the phone access is fine for me. I've had a few software updates, which may have made a difference to the original performance.

I essentially have both - the older system in the F-Type and the newer ICTP system in the F-Pace. Certainly the newer system is nice in that it's slicker and brighter. But, the ICTP software has been buggy enough that it offsets the "slowness" of the old system. I'd still give it the edge because of some of the new functionality, but even that requires an on-going subscription after the initial period. Nothing to get overly excited about.

I used both; although my 2016 has the smaller unit and I actually like the physical buttons too. I have used the larger screen in service loaners and they are nice as well, but I dont drive enough for it to matter much. I feel like its one of those things I would obsess over if I had the choice but would likely forget about a week later. I do like Apple Play though and the few times I have used in my pother cars, I like it.

Have the smaller screen and an aftermarket wireless carplay/android auto solution that took over the map functions...best of both worlds. Speed is "ok".....waze works and that is my biggest app use....and music. I like the buttons a lot compared to our other car that is just a screen....hopefully the pendulum will swing back to a better compromise that is less distracting.

Which solution did you go with?

Carsight on alliexpress....about 300 dollars total. It s been fine and works fine....figure I can get 3 of these for the price of some of the others out there....and in the end, if I ran into a real roadblock would just give up and consider options.... Had a pro install it for another 100.

we have the wide screen in our XE and I dont think it is an improvement, there is a lot of faffing about to find anything and a lot of scrolling and flicking about. Looks nice though and I'm not complaining about the sound from the surround sound stereo in the XE, which is fantastic.

Screens need to have more height, the one in our ford which is squarer is actually better to use overall.

The only real improvement, for what it's worth, in the 10" version is CarPlay/Android auto. Otherwise it's really no particular difference in terms of functionality. I actually prefer the look of the user interface of the earlier systems.

I've used all versions through loads of loaners over the years, had the same system as the early F-Types in my old XF and now have the last 8" ICTP version which is essentially the same as the 10" system but can't run CarPlay/Android auto natively. I never had any issues with speed with any of the versions and think that they are generally speaking buggier the newer they are. There's just more and more that can go wrong and onboard system software was never JLR's strong side.

Agreed, though Android Auto at least requires a cable, which is pretty primitive...

Have NOTHING to do with the seller and cannot vouch for it....has been good now for about 4 months. Paid a local "come to you to install"audio stuff guru to install it and he said it was simple.

We have Bosch stuff...so one orders the Bosch unit.... you lose the map and if you leave the bluetooth on your phone it can fight with it...I just leave it on wifi/carplay and don't have the car see my phone with its own bt now. Apple and android stuff is wireless (can be wired too). Works with the rear view camera. I had them put a new microphone it...sounds better. Volume works....steering wheel skip forward/back is lost...but the screen works fine.

If you remote start via in-control (the jaguar app) you need to go onto your phone when you get into the car and connect the device manually in the phone's settings and then it just takes over....if you start from in the car normally it auto does it all. Waze can be flaky but that is true on all of our head units (factory, pioneer, and this). Apple maps is best, but I like to see the roadside assistants coming up.

So if you buy an F-Type, say a 2016, with the older, smaller unit, is there any way to get Waze to work? And specifically, does the satellite radio interface work effectively, and the cell phone interface? Those are really all I need.

For Waze you need Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. To get that you just need to plug in an aftermarket device from Unique Audio or something similar like jcb-memphis above.

The in car cell phone bluetooth interface works fine for calls/contacts and audio streaming.

Or if like you just have the media set to bluetooth, start Waze on your phone and have the directions coming through your speakers, which I do a bit. I have the samsung fold, I'm thinking of getting a car holder for it as it would be a better screen for waze/maps anyway.

Running Waze on a phone is of course also a good option.

For longer road trips I have a good phone holder for the passenger grab handle and run Waze just for traffic and camera alerts on the phone while I use the ICTP navigation for the navigation itself. I have the latest ICTP though where I think the nav works really well while a MY16 car probably will have an older clunkier version where it makes more sense to only run Waze instead.

Thought about getting the Unique Audio kit to add CarPlay/Android Auto but haven't bothered yet because I think the ICTP nav is much more user friendly then Waze or Google maps via CarPlay. I've used CarPlay a lot in many different cars and think Waze and Google maps via CarPlay still are kind of too basic.

Forgive my ignorance, is ICTP Nav what comes standard on the F-Types and is so often maligned?

I guess it may depend on the market but as far as I know all F-Types have navigation as standard. There's been a bunch of different versions throughout the model years and I think it's explained in other threads which cars had which system. ICTP (In Control Touch Pro) is the latest iteration which came with an 8" screen up until around 2018 and then a 10" screen (which supports CarPlay/Android Auto).

When it comes to the nav being maligned... my experience from 9 years of countless road trips all over Europe using the last three generations of Jag satnavs is that they're fine and always got me where I wanted to go. Phone based solutions like Waze and Google Maps via CarPlay are outstanding for live traffic and cameras but they are still not as user friendly and well integrated as the standard systems. I'm sure that will develop though.

Are the steering wheel controls supported with this module?

... - volume yes. Skip no. Voice command is "hey siri" via the mic as my car lacked a voice button. Works great!
Have no issues.
