We had a similar risk notified on our Toyota RAV4 Plug-in hybrid late last year. We were warned that it could catch fire if charged when temps fell below 3C, and we were notified in November here in the UK. Earliest slot we could have the remedial work carried out? Mid-January.

Fortunately, it being a plug-in hybrid, we could run it on petrol in the intervening period, but the battery range is perfect for father's needs - almost all being very short journeys - so it was frustrating rather than unusable.

The biggest worry, for me, was deciding between parking the RAV4 away from the house but close to my Jag, or vice-versa! I jest of course, no matter how much sentimental value is wrapped up in my f-type (and there is HUGE sentimental value in it), our personal safety is way higher.

Lithium batteries are potentially very dangerous - especially in the sizes fitted to EVs. EVangelists trot out the "more ICEVs catch fire than EVs" but still refuse to acknowledge the very real danger of a battery fire when it does happen, however rarely. Low probabitlity, very high consequence.

And research in New Zealand has studied vehicle fires and found that they're more prevalent in 10+ year old vehicles and the two most common causes are arson and electrical fires. Do EVs have much in the way of electrical? Wait until a lot of the EV fleet is 10 years old ....

Sir, this is a F-Type sub-forum. lol.

Anyways, when I was researching my next car I really wanted a I-Pace over a F-Type but the I-Pace's short range and slow recharge was a turn off for its price. That being said I think EVs are the future and hope the battery fire issues get resolved as technology progresses. For performance vehicles I like how Corvette is doing with with their E-Ray hybrid.
