It wasn't a hard hit and structural repair is not likely needed....but it will be very expensive, especially to fix it "as new". My wife got rear ended in our GLK last week; estimate is $5k and there is no body damage except the rear bumper cover.

I personally wouldn't be comfortable with an attempted repair on that rear quarter; I'd want it replaced...and that is a very big job.

I plan to wait to see what my insurance company says.

The panel itself is just around $1,500. Do you mean it's a labor intense job?

Looks like my damage. End result was $6k at Jag approved shop. Jag almost insists these shops replace rather than repair.

Which parts did you end up getting replaced?

I'm not an expert on bodywork, but aluminum is different than (low-carbon) steel. Aluminum gets harder and more prone to cracking the more it is worked ("work-hardening"). On my car, it is buckled over the wheel and is torn above the taillight.

They didn't have a choice. I got rear-ended on the freeway. Not my fault at all.

Minimum 20 business days once authorized, plus parts delivery time. They estimate two months.

There isn't actually a frame, as such, but it's convenient to talk in those terms. Yes, those would be frame-ish pieces.

Thank you very much for your input.
Make sure it's approved by Jaguar/Land Rover for repair of the aluminum cars. If so, you should be OK. If in doubt, talk to a service advisor at your local dealer to see which shops are authorized to work on your car. You have the right to have your car repaired by the shop of your choosing. One approved by JLR will be unlikely to cause any trouble with insurance.

Sorry to hear about the unfortunate circumstances. Hopefully it can be repaired relatively quickly as it doesn't look to be too serious..

WOW.. Estimated two months? I'm very sorry to hear. That is a crazy long time and right in the perfect driving time of the season. Well at least here on the East coast. You may have better year round weather than we do, but still. Sorry bud, but the important thing is they fix and fix it right. Hope you get it back sooner than estimated.

Yes, that's exactly what I mean. The panel itself is a relatively minor part of the overall repair cost. To do it right means probably having the entire car painted or you'll see the difference in that panel.

I've restored cars as a hobby; my last one cost $43,000 in panel replacement, repair, bodywork and paint. I can't tell you how many times someone has tried to sell me a rusty or damaged car and offered to include the fender/door/quarter panel as if that made the damage/rust repair cost negligible....it doesn't.

2 cents,
Dave

its in a thread here somewhere, just search "hit a deer." The damage to mine wasnt as much scratch and scrape as yours but the idea of a panel replacement plus lights and labor make it comparable, at least thats my opinion. The shop will do a good job dont worry, the hardest part for me was having to wait for it to be finished, especially during the nice summer months.

That deer strike damage looks far less than the OP's car IMO......we'll see, I guess.

My car is going for repair ok Monday. It will be in the shop for around 3 weeks. They're replacing the bumper and the entire side panel for now. Cost is around $6k-$7k

Hope you get it back soon and it's good news that they are replacing the quarter IMO.
Cheers,
Dave

Sorry to see this, my experience with these cars is that quite minor looking damage can be very expensive and extensive. I had what looked like quite a minor ding in top of my bonnet/hood which turned out the cross member u dear earth was bent, needed new hood, new cross member, nose cone off and repainted part took ages to come from UK was off the road for 5 weeks and was about $15k AUD.

Have heard of quite minor looking damage leading to a write off.
