Default Jaguar factory authorized warranty work service centers

I have to say that I am used to exceptional service in the past with my Infiniti. I suppose I expected even better sevice with a higher end car, and I truly hope that turns out to be the case, but the signs so far are inauspicious.

In an attempt to be preemptive, when there is work to be performed that is covered under warranty, technical service bulletins, etc., does that work typically have to be performed at a Jaguar dealer, or can a willing certified service center do it?

I have a check engine light that came on in my 2015 Ftyoe, and the soonest appointment that Jaguar of Austin can schedule is October 3, two weeks away. Their reviews on Yelp are terrible, and I am obviously concerned about driving my car for two weeks with a check engine light on.

I am at this point giving JLR of Austin the benefit of the doubt as I have left only two messages with no call back yet, but as I mentioned, am not holding my breath based on their reviews.

I think you're stuck with the dealer, especially when the issue isn't urgent and there is a dealer in the area. It's unlikely that a CEL is anything serious. Assuming you fully tighten the gas cap (the most common cause), then it's probably just a bad O2 sensor.

+1 on the gas cap being a potential cause - happened to me once. Tightened the gas cap and made sure it clicked a few times and the CEL disappeared after driving around a while.

.

As far as I know the only "certified service center" would be the dealer.

You can go to a good independent shop that can (in many cases) perform the same repairs as a Jaguar dealer but you'd have to pay out-of-pocket.

It might well be that in other parts of the world, where there isn't an established dealer network, Jaguar has "authorized service centers" but I'm not aware of any such thing in the USA

Others will chime in.

Cheers

For your peace of mind over the next 2 weeks, you can get the CEL code scanned and deciphered for free at any PEP Boys in your area, to determine if it's something serious.

... and if you take it to PEP Boys/NAPA/AutoParts - remember to disconnect and then re-connect your battery AFTER the OBD port is used (otherwise your battery will drain)...

Thanks so much for the replies. I did check my gas cap, filled up etc, and the light remains on after a few houses of driving. I will get the CLE code. That is very helpful to know!

Check out the several threads onbattery drains. On some of the F-Types (not all), the battery management module goes wonky (highly technical engineering term) whenever the OBDII port is tapped into. Disconnecting the battery for a few seconds restores that module to proper operation. That reset in turn may require a reset of the auto-up window programming (instructions in the owner's manual).
