Default Key Fob Challenged..are there settings?

Lately my key fobs will not unlock the car doors if the car has been sitting more than an hour or so. I have to press the little button on the door. Its both fobs, don't think its a battery issue, as they work fine, even from a distance, before it sits for a period of time and the computer goes to "sleep".

Anyone else experience this? Are there settings for this? Don't want to go to the dealer over something silly...

I always use the door button, I never would notice this problem. However, like many other issues, it might be resolved by disconnecting the battery for more than 15 seconds. If not, a module has probably gone bad.

I noted a similar symptom with one of the smart keys on my X351. Keyless entry worked fine, but the fob button would not unlock if the car was left overnight. It ended up being the fob battery - when the voltage dropped it went into sleep mode after a while to prevent it draining fully.

I would occasionally get the "smart key not detected" message on the IP and had to use the "knee start" technique. I only figured out it was the battery because about a month later the IP showed a message about replacing the battery. It threw me initially because it would always work to lock the car so I thought the battery was ok.

The F-Type uses the same KVM and smart key technology as the X351, so it is worth checking the fob battery as it is easy to do.

Thanks Xdave, that sounds like exactly what is happening.
