Default manual rear spoiler deployment

I noticed that the rear spoiler only manually deploys when I hold down the spoiler button when I am parked. If I am moving, the spoiler button does nothing. Is that the case for everyone, or is something faulty on mine? Of course mine deploys automatically at highway speeds.

It's been discussed in previous threads and in the owners manual.

If you have a coupe, it will deploy at approximately 70mph. The button is used to clean the underside of the spoiler when the engine is off but in ignition is on.

yup, can't manually deploy except for cleaning purposes when parked.

Wanted to float this discussion to the top in case someone has found a way to manually control the spoiler.

I think the SVR's spoiler looks much better when deployed. At rest, it looks almost as if it's angled in the opposite direction.

Buy an August 2014 production date UK model.

Worked on the button up to the automatic activation speed.

It can be done. I'll update with a wiring diagram when I get a chance.

So this is the basic premise to take total manual control of the spoiler:

There's another thread on unplugging the spoiler motor via a connector in the hatch, left side near/above battery somewhere but I do not think it has been found yet. Assuming that those are the exact same pair of wires that go to the motor (test it) then it can be unplugged and the "to motor" wires in this fantastic drawing can be connected there. If not, then a pair of wires need to be routed from the spoiler motor to inside the car.

For the rest, 12v and ground are available anywhere and the button can be put near the driver.

This power window switch was how all power windows systems worked for a very long time, and still is in cheaper vehicles. Nowadays everything is networked to reduce use of copper. Example:
Amazon Amazon

The switch is in technical terms a "momentary, double pole double throw, center off".

The spoiler uses limit switches so it auto stops at the end of travel. To do it right....These should probably be monitored -- meaning even if you are holding down the button, reaching the end of travel should cut off power to make it move in that direction. I have not messed with it to see what happens if you were to continue applying power to the motor at end of travel. It might have a sort of slip clutch action built in, or just stall, either of which would be fine but not as elegant.
