Default McLaren 570 S

Drove the new 570 S today pretty neat but for 100K more than than F Type R got to say no. Although faster than the F Type R it didn't feel that way and there were body squeaks that don't exist in the Jag.

Interesting ...

I will be test driving one next week. I was eyeing that as my potential F replacement.

Same here, but in used form. So probably in 2-3 years. Only car out there that got me excited again. The reviews have been quite stellar.

Drove the 570s and 650s back to back today. The straight line speed in the 570s is unreal. The 650 is on another planet performance wise. The C7Z I drove was no slouch but above 100mph the Mclarens just haul...being around 3100 pounds really helps...

One thing I will say about Mclaren is they are really cool to deal with. You would think that dealers that sell cars that sell for 200-300k would be stuck up but the dealer in my town has some really down to earth people working there. They are really enthusiastic about their product. Compare that with the a$&hats that work at Ferrari.

Love Mclarens but they are $$$$$$$$$

i drove the 650S on track at sonoma for 5 laps....Wow. quite the machine. but it is big $$. i think the 570 is a brilliant move by mclaren to take a chomp out of the 911 market (with a superior performance offering). certainly a consideration at some point, but having too much fun with the R at the moment.

I need to agree about the dealers. I bought my F-Type from a dealer that sells Jaguar, McLaren, Bugatti, Rolls, and Bentley. I was concerned that I didn't "fit in" with their typical clientele, but I was treated like nothing but royalty the entire time.

I have a very close friend who has a friend who owns a McLaren. He doesn't like it anymore and grew quickly tired of it because it is too easy to drive, and boring at normal driving speeds. That being said, if it wasn't for the 2016 F-Types having the new Jaguar extended warranty, I would have jumped on a lightly used 2013 MP4-12C...

I can see how the cars can be a little sedate at normal speeds. You can't them sideways (I'm not sure you can fully disable TC) but once you get them to travel speeds they are unreal.

They even gave me a hat on a test drive.

we bought from the same dealer - they really are fantastic.

Here's a bit of a reason to avoid a second hand McLaren: extended warranties just aren't available. They do have a certified pre-owned program, but it doesn't cover the double clutch transmission. Had a friend who lost the tranny after light driving on a car with only 12k miles and was a year past the warranty. That transmission is $20k to replace. Ouch!

Total a$$wipes! When I was looking very hard at a Maser GT The Ferrari/Maser guys were calling me every 3 days, super nice on the phone, etc. trying to sell me the one they had that fit my bill. They sold the car to someone else and stopped calling me and then didn't return my calls. Wipes!!

McLaren will sell you an extended warranty. Depending on the State, it can range from $3500 to $9000 for 1 to 2 years.

The announced 570GT sure looks nice. The McLaren forum is going nuts over the panoramic roof (very similar to Jags, but was also on the P1). Gotta say that the leather draped interior is drool worthy in red. You lose a bit on performance, but gain some comfort. I still prefer the 570S' backend. The flying buttress and partial view of the engine looks better to me, especially in contrasting colors.

I think that any Mclaren is a good addition to a Jaguar!!! I was interested in 570s and was called by the dealership in my area (really nice and fair guys!) for a testdrive...short story: I drove 650s and in the end put my deposit on the car. Should arrive in summer 2016....I love both cars...the first one super loud and the other one super fast.

Yes they will - I said the same thing in the post you were replying to. the point I was making is that the warranty doesn't cover the transmission. The MP4-12C, for example, has a Graziano Double Clutch system that was purpose built for that car. Reliability is suspect at best and they are extremely expensive to replace. Parts are not available for them - its an all or nothing kind of deal with that transmission.

Not trying to bag on McLaren - personally, I love them. Just a caveat for those looking at the used market.

Ahh this part of your post "extended warranties just aren't available." is what threw me.

I'm not familiar with exactly what they cover, just knew they were available. No transmission would be a pretty big deal but a quick search shows full powertrain extended warranties for McLaren. How honest those are, no clue. Not like I'm ready for any used McLaren at the moment.

Nice, did you order the 570S or 650S?

Be sure to come back and post pics.

Has anyone seen the recently announced 570 GT? Slightly new roof line and 13 cubic feet of STORAGE SPACE for the weekend trips, as well as a few more "creature comforts"

Take A Tour Around McLaren?s New 570 GT

Yeah mentioned it above. Looks like a nice alternative to the 570S which I still prefer. But the GT is probably the more livable car.

I'm not sure "ugly" is the word, but I'm just not a fan of McClaren styling although the 570 is better than any of the others. Too fussy!

+1. As with the R8, the design elements are not integrated well and they have to use visual trickery to make it look palatable.
