Must see: The best F-Type R testing and review ever on Earth!
In reality, 99.99999% do NOT buy a brand NEW car to race on a track or to exceed 186 mph!, contrary to what is shown on the Internet. It’s like judging what is a SUV based solely on off road capabilities. Thus, track capabilities cannot be included in the definition of a Sports Car. What the German YouTube video clearly shows is that there is NOTHING that a 911 Turbo, Lamborghini, Ferrari, Corvette or McLaren can do on a PUBLIC ROAD (Autobahn excluded for top speed) that a F-Type R cannot do. Further, the F-type can do more than most even in the rain and as shown in the video is more fun than most so called “sports cars”.
In reading various comments over the years, there is a perception that the F-Type is luxurious. That was never Jaguar intent because if you just sit in a XK, Aston, or AMG GT — you will quickly realize that the F-type interior was inspired by the 911 and performance is focused. Ergonomically, it is far better than the 911. Luxury, and space are key components of a GT car.☮️

I guess one reason to the perception of the F-Type being luxurious is that it's a Jag and Jaguar's heritage of luxury. Then it also depends a lot on the spec and options. My F-Type is more luxurious than any XK I've sat in or driven. As opposed to the XK though, there are also F-Types out there which definitely aren't luxurious because you could order them without any options and with a really basic spec. I've seen some pretty weird examples on the UK market without even the most basic tech and never understood how someone could spend so much money on a new F-Type but skip things like parking sensors or a decent interior.
I was hoping to solve the auto start/stop thing too, but in the end I ordered the cheaper one that doesn’t have that. That 700 dollar one that can do that requires you to splice wires of the wiring harness for install and I was not willing to do that. I ordered the cheaper less invasive one today (linked in the PSA fuse 15 thread). Visie received his and installed it. He said it wasn’t bad at all, and it’s working great.
I liked that the 700 dollar one worked with the car’s switch gear too, but again, I just could not do the splicing. The cheaper one will still program to the homelink garage opener so it will still feel nice and integrated.

How did you find out that there was splicing involved? The description for the more expensive one also says plug and play. Were you able to talk to someone at the company or someone that installed the more expensive one? Sorry for the questions but I think I'll wait on your install and review. Good luck 🤞
Once I was happy with that end of things, and was convinced that their product would deliver the goods and not prevent GPF cycles from running, I then asked for some install documents. The install document showed the splicing for that more expensive unit (the one I was originally looking at), and I confirmed it with them. I too was not expecting that given the plug and play claim on the website.
Then somehow I got onto the fact they had the cheaper dongle-based unit that I ended up going with. He confirmed that this cheaper one was truly plug and play, and visie on the forum has since further confirmed that after installing it already.
The splicing for the more expensive one I guess is needed in order to integrate fully with the switchgear around the gearshift, do the auto start/stop memory stuff etc…
I like my F-Type and enjoy it. Call it a pickup, a bus, a sportscar, whatever, it won't change my enjoyment. I'm not sure why you seem to be so emotionally invested in the F-Type being classified as a sports car and not a GT. A GT is exemplified by long-distance capability with performance and luxury, and typically a coupe. A convertible could be called a roadster, but a coupe could not. Both GT and Sports are commonly misused terms in the automotive world, but the F-Type, along with the a few XKs appear in this list:

That’s exactly it. I was in direct contact with support at ASR asking questions about their product in the context of the GPF management issues discussed in that PSA fuse 15 thread.
