Default Official F Type excuses thread for taking the car out for a spin

So it's only been a few days since I got my R coupe, and I find myself thinking of a good reason to leave the house and drive my car. Yes, yes - some may say that there doesn't have to be an excuse. But during these trying times and under the circumstances of where you live, one is "forced" to be imaginative. Whether it's going to the post office, the grocery store, seeing my MIL to check on her, or going to get lunch/dinner - I have plenty of options to drive.

I'm sure some of you may even be over the honeymoon stage with your car, but I bet there are plenty of us who get giddy when we start our engines and crack a huge grin once we start rolling on pavement. So let's read some stories!

Can I pick them all? I’ve even tried the “I’m pregnant one”. Didn’t go over well but I went anyway. I have another one I’ve used recently. “I need to get away from you so I don’t catch COVID-19.”

I had to put some social distance between me and the Corvette back there.

Look officer, I keep forgetting these dang British cars put the speedo on the left side of the instrument cluster. I swear the right needle said I was only doing 55.

LOL yes, you can pick multiple choices.

Yesterday, I ordered dinner (pick-up) from a locally owned restaurant that's about 15 miles from my house. It was a nice drive.

Frank, IMHO, I follow all the CDC protocols, social distancing (alone in car), don’t stop to talk to strangers and exercise, I get to exercise my right foot, left foot and both hands. I’m not breathing or touching anyone and I get to have some alone time out of the house and enjoy the beautiful scenery along the Delaware River driving Rt 97 by hawks nest. The sounds this jag makes is music to my ears.

Well here in Pa driving your car, other than to go to store for food, gas or medicine, is going to get you a ticket of $250. Not me, but I just saw a news story about the state police ticketing a lady who just went for a drive to get out of the house. Now I’m not a doctor, but have been in emergency management for over 30 years, can someone please explain to me how going out and driving in your closed car, or even with the top down, not stopping at any stores or interacting with anyone some how contributes to the spread of the virus. A virus mind you that is NOT freely airborne and can only be transmitted by close contact or infected surfaces contact?

I am all for reducing spread vectors but this is patently stupid........ok maybe I’m getting a little stir crazy.

I live in PA, too, and heard that story. Won't be stopping me. If I get stopped, I'm going to the pharmacy or to get groceries. The F-Type has a convenient power hatch, which makes curbside pickup a breeze!

My neighbor is a PA at a local hospital. As long as people are still out driving, they are still having accidents. When they are brought into a trauma center, you don't know whether they have the virus or not (many are likely walking around with it who don't even know it), and there is little time to take appropriate precautions. That's what I was told at least.

And if you end up in hospital you're likely to pick up something from the poor souls who have to be there ...

Well, here in MN there is a SIP order but parks are not closed and people are still out driving around. My wife and I went for a drive this morning and pretty much stayed in the car until we found ourselves next to the Mississippi River. We got out and walked to the edge, took some photos, and left to come home for lunch. It was nice to get out for a couple of hours.

Like camstang posted, we are all going to the grocery store or the pharmacy or to conduct a welfare check on a family member.

Here in NorCal I am taking a road trip about every 5 days or so. Other than buying gas, which is still over $3.50 a gallon her (go figure), I stay in the car and find a twisty road. Put it in Dynamic mode, top down, radio off so I can hear that sweet sounding exhaust, and pretend to be Mario Andretti as I drive up to his winery in Napa. Too bad it’s closed for the C19, but I’ve actually gotten to see and speak to him there multiple times. A true gentleman, and his wine ain’t bad either!

Gas is so cheap right now, and I can tell that people are getting antsy. There are more people driving around on their motorcycles and in their fun toys than I expected for this time of the year.

Honestly, I think it would be better to stay at home for a while and resist the urge to go out.

I paid $2.19 for 93 the other day in northern Maryland. Hard to resist the desire to hear it burn in the pops and crackles of the V8S. So I don’t resist it!

Very confusing here in Pennsylvania. Food stores are open, beer store is open, we are encouraged to get out and exercise yet the state police are starting to hand out citations for driving. I can't get to the store or the park any other way then driving there. Is it just me? You can't have it both ways. I have taken the opportunity to start a deep detailing of the Jag.

I ordered a Ryobi cordless drill set so I can mate it with a dual action orbital tool. That way, I don't have to worry about the cord from my original orbital. Not sure why I never did this before. I guess it takes boredom and the urge to spend money at Home Depot for me to see the significance of those tools (needs vs wants).
