Exclamation Opening roof throws Gearbox fault code

Hello,

I have a wierd problem with my 2013 F-Type S convertible. When opening the roof, the car throws a "gearbox fault" warning on the dash and then the car is stuck in park. Switching off the car fixes the problem. This only happens when opening the roof. No problems in any other case. 12V batteries have been replaced and charged. What could cause this problem? My local Jaguar specialist suggested it might me due to a faulty ABS module. Sounds wierd, but could be possible. If this is the case, how much does it cost to repair the ABS module in Europe?

Thanks in advance!

Sounds like yet another low voltage glitch.

Are you operating the top with the engine running, or not? We only do ours when the alternator is charging.

Based on other Topics here, you could also have a poor connection between the battery and the engine bay...

Hi,

That's what it sounds like to me as well. The batteries are replaced and recharged, and the specialist insisted it's not the issue. But sometimes it has other small bugs which can come from 12v issues. What should I check next if it indeed is a 12v issue? I always start the engine before opening the roof.

If you have a multimeter, check voltage on the battery after a night's rest. If it has a Peak Hold setting, see what voltage variation you are getting with the top operating.

If you are running the engine when this occurs, have a load test performed on your alternator (with the top operating).

++++++++++++

Often, a "good" voltage reading is because the engine was just run.

Another Good Practice is to stop the top mechanism half-way down and apply a drop of light oil to all the hinges & joints. We do that once a year.

Check all the ground connections.
