Default Plastidip

Hey guys. I plastidipped my F Type this weekend. I learned a few things and have watched some videos and gotten some pointers for how to do it better next time, but here's the process if anyone is curious. I plan to redo it in the coming months. Will try a different color

I really like the color. I can tell you’re not happy with the results. I admire your Guts! Seriously, I wouldn’t have the ***** to try that on mine.
Best of luck on your next attemp.

Thanks. It doesn't take much ***** really since it's peelable. Basically I'm just out like $300, but I would probably change the color in in fall anyway, latest next spring. I kinda want to redo it now, but like you, I really like the color so I might just ride it out for a while

Good job.
I've just Plasti coated my wheels from silver to black, but left the BRG metallic as is...

Yeah if I had british racing green, I wouldn't mess with it either. LOVE that color. The gray is nice and it's metallic but 1) it's kinda bland and not eye catching and 2) it does have a number of rock chips and fine scratches in the paint so this covers it up as well as protects it from future damage

I give you a lot of credit for attempting this and even more credit for sharing the challenges, To many who post DIY paint efforts on line gloss over the problems and the lessons they had to learn. It helps the rest of us to get a realistic picture of how difficult these things actually are. Not sure I have the courage to try it myself but props to you for the effort and good luck on the next attempt.

Just can’t get into the plastidip scene. Reminds me too much of some of my tool handles.

Haha. Fair enough. That's exactly what it was originally made for. They have some CRAZY colors though with pearls and color change that definitely won't remind you of tool handles (especially with the dip armor that gives it close to factory gloss). I hope to eventually try some of those, but I have to get the basics down first!

I've used it on cars a few times, most recently to black out some shiny bits on my daughter's Mazda2. It is much easier to use than wrap on a 3 dimensional surface (eg for hood vents and in this case the grill trim) but it is also very easy to make a mess of the edges where you cut it. I put it on the spoiler of my daughter's car about 18 months ago and it has sat in the sun ever since with no degradation, and our summers have been very hot. So to that extent it is probably better than wrap, which shouldnt be used unless the car is garaged. It gets everywhere but cleans up pretty easily.
