Default QUESTION ABOUT CPO transfer

Hi all,
So in the US a jag dealer can sell a used car as a certified pre-owned, which gives it another 2 years/50k miles extension to the original factory 4 year/50k mile warranty, for a total of 6 year/100k miles factory bumper to bumper warranty starting from the original sales date. I also know this warranty is transferable to subsequent owners, through private sales at no cost (similar to porsche CPO).

Does anyone know if this warranty is transferable if it goes through an independent dealer? (I know for a fact it does not for porsche CPO). I am looking at car that was purchased as a factory CPO in 2014 (2nd owner), and it was traded in and auctioned off to an independent dealer (dealers are not considered as owners as defined by carfax). Wondering if I will get to take advantage of the CPO as a 3rd owner. I am 100% sure it does transfer if this is a private sales, but I doubt it if the car was possessed by another dealer before me. Does anyone know the answer to this?

Thanks!!

There's a card in the CPO manual to fill out and send to Jaguar if a CPO car is sold privately or through a non-Jaguar retailer so I'd say it is transferable. Also just as an FYI the CPO warranty isn't *quite* bumper to bumper. It has a number of exclusions listed on it. Pretty much everything I've had fixed under the base factory warranty would not have been covered if I was in my CPO period.

I looked at a CPO car that had been traded in to a Jaguar dealer. They told me the warranty would transfer but it was not eligible for the financing deal associated with CPO vehicles.

As pbad said, the extended warranty has some exclusions.

thanks for the info guys. Ok so the jag CPO isnt like the porsche cpo which is an extension of the original factory warranty....hmmm...

What the jag CPO is better at is that (I called jag service to find out) once certified it's good till it runs out, no matter how many owners or dealers possess it. In that sense it's probably the best in the industry...most are not transferable (Lexus, Benz) and even if they are, only in private sales (porsche)
