Default Rear diff fluid leak?

I was cleaning my garage and came across this across these spots between the rear wheels. Diff fluid leak? Taking it so we'll see.

None of the German cars I've owned ever leaked. Just around 2 years old and already leaking. I was hoping to keep this one a little longer.

Convertible or coupe? Cos the drainage from the boot/trunk lid may explain a pool of water... But would expect that to be further rear than the diff. Any drops on the underside of the diff casing?

Could it be some condensation from the exaust?

If it's dead-center it's probably not the exhaust since his signature indicates he has an R. Hopefully nothing serious.

The exaust "collector" box is in the center on the R as well. Might be condensation or drainage?

Have you looked under the car yet? It could just be exhaust sut. In my case I did have a rear end leak but it's since been fixed. I also had a transmission pan leak as well that had to get fix and the other day I noticed I now have an oil leak so I feel your pain. All my leaks and i JUST hit 10k miles. I do still love my Jag though.

The way that the fluid has splashed rather than held together, as oil does when it lands on contact, suggests that it is indeed condensation from the exhaust that occurs at startup.

Another clue, is that the fluid appears to be quite dark, almost black from soot which is again, present in the exhausts.

I would be very surprised and alarmed if the oil from the diff was that colour...even after 10 years!

100 bucks says exhaust, any other bets ? ;-)

Just checked my garage floor and under the car, and I am 99% sure you are correct 😉

But I was surpriced to see that the exaust pipes in front of the "collector" box allready looked a bit rusty? And I have not driven un salty conditions. Same with the drifeshafts...?

If its a leak, should be an easy fix. No sweat.

Please do. I'm experiencing the same issue. The leak is constant at start up of the car in my garage. My garage is relatively humid so it might very well be water condensation from the exhaust (even if I am not sure to understand what causes this phenomenon). The leak is definitely not oil though

I am starting to notice what appears to be water, prolly from the AC, and hoping it's no big deal. Commenting to be reminded tho.... good luck!

That seems like it could be perfectly normal condensation. When humid it can be rather much water, and usually just as it should be.

I thought somebody had discovered a small hole in the exhaust pipes in that proximity for letting condensation drain out of the pipes.

I have not looked, but that would be a god thing if it is - specially for winter storage.

Hallo,

i have my FType for 1 Month and i notice a leak under the exhaust in the middle of the car. I think this is water with the black soot.

This is on both sites.

Nobody can give me a answer if this is normal.

Sorry for my bad english

It looks like water/soot stain... if it is not oily, then thats likely what it is and mine does the same.. no problem.

It looks to me that the LHS exhaust clamp is a little loose, and you have a small exhaust leak at that point. Should be a quick, easy and cheap fix.

I had a bad fitting pipe that did leak that way, it happened slowly overtime, and the clamps were rusted.

Take a something lite like a feather(only thing that came to mind) and move it around connection. If the leak is enough to move it then its enough to cause a leak.
