There is 2016 F Type S on sale with 11,000 miles (18,000kms).

The story behind the car, frontend accident, insurance company deemed it to costly to repair, so it became an salvage. Auction house got the car fixed and sold it to the person who brought it into Canada. The car got a federal and provincial inspection done and has been on the road for couple months. I went took the car out for a spin, the ac wasn't working, and the driver seat was not adjustable but those issues have been repaired through Jaguar with receipts.

He would be willing let the car go for about $40,000 CDN. But I was googling and i found this, 2016 Jaguar F-type S - Supercharged Awd - Used Jaguar F-type for sale in Surrey, British Columbia | autoquid.com the car on there was listed for 35k CDN. <-- I think its a fake website or something but that user info matches up with person. His name is Monie.

I purchased a salvage vehicle once after a through inspection, turned out to be a great bargain. But there are horror stories. And you will of course have no warranty, potentially difficulty with getting insurance, more hassle getting it registered, and resale could be difficult. So, I'd make sure I was getting a heck of a discount (50% off comparable cars) or I'd look elsewhere.

 

That's priced as low mile clean carfax car. An accident free 2016 S with less than 20K miles should sell in the mid $40Ks (US) if in perfect condition. My V8 was priced below that salvage V6 but with a clean carfax and lower miles, plus certified warranty to almost 2022 and 100K. Pass.

 

Well, I offered him 28,000 CDN for it. Based on the information yall provided. He said no, what should my next offer be?

 

To walk away. Salvaged cars are worth AT BEST 50% of the going market because that is what they bring and even then only to a very, very slim number of potential buyers. 95% of buyers will not "knowingly" buy a salvaged vehicle. That is why you hear of so many people getting scammed when the dealer "cleaned" the titles by running them through certain states that allow that corrupt practice.

 

If you like the car, something you might try is get a quote on a solid third party 100k warranty. If they turn down the VIN, there's your professional risk appraisal. If they give you a quote, you could build it into the deal for piece of mind. Personally, I think the best values in the used market are in the upper end of the price range.

 

 

+1. Why buy a salvage car when there are plenty of cars out there with a clean history? The salvage would have to be at a CONSIDERABLE discount for me to consider it.

I purchased a salvage flood 1999 corvette in 2001 for about 50% off the current value (23,000USD) My wife then drove it until 2016 with NO repairs, problems or concerns. I sold it then for 12,000. I call that a home run.
But as other have posted salvage cars are worth 40-50 percent of current value. Just because the guy selling the Jag paid to much doesn’t mean you have too. Wait him out or move on. IMO
